I found this interactive pop-up by Yahoo! News quite interesting. It shows minimum wages around the world in US dollars (or fractions thereof).

In a place like Thailand, say, where the minimum wage low, like most of SE Asia, what I call the “happiness coefficient” is insanely high. I equate this to two factors. One if family time; preschool kids are often with parents as they work, in stores, or with grandparents at home. The second is that necessities (food, furniture, housing) are quite affordable relative to those low wages.
Hell, I could live in Chiang Mai on 10K CDN a year. Comfortably.
