Al Franken (running for the Senate in ‘08) was on Letterman this evening speaking to this.

He said, in light of Rove and Libby’s outing of CIA Agent Valerie Plame–an act considered treason as the current president’s father has said, and punishable by death–he’s awaiting their execution.

Has anyone read Stephen Grey’s “Ghost Plane: The True Story of The CIA Torture Program” (St.Martin’s Press, 2006)? Fantastic journalism and an excellent read.

He begins the book by citing the case of Philip Agee–a former CIA officer who in his 1975 memoirs, and quite disaffected with the intelligence organization, mainly for its use of torture, published the names of several CIA agents–leading to much criticism including, as Grey says:

“President George H.W. Bush, a former head of the CIA himself, once said he would forgive many people in his life, but he would never forgive Philip Agee.”

I wonder if he’ll forgive his own son for employing people who not only condone torture, and ‘extraordinary renditions’ the likes of which most notably Maher Arar experienced–or those who oust CIA operatives for, as Bill’s nicely summed up in the clip, political purposes.

Shame.

@ Yossarian - what a softy - hanging? That’s letting them off easy.

I like this one: Have Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Rice and Gonzales all kneeling on the White House front lawn, give them each a nice, long knife, and have them commit hara-kiri. No seconds to back them up, though - too much like cut and run.

It amazes me that anyone at all voted for Bush, I mean.. come on. Sure, you can mess up once, but twice?
