A very close friend of mine, Matt Russell, has been playing in a band called “Ruth” for something like 11 years. The members are Matt Russell (drums), Todd Russell (Matt’s brother — guitar), and Ruth Peterson (vocals). Ruth was recently diagnosed with colon cancer.
From the band’s website:
Please know that Ruth is surrounded by family and friends and that she’s in very good spirits despite all that she is going through, both physically and emotionally. She will continue working on the new cd and hopes to return to the stage as much as possible. We will share her progress with you here on the site.
I would just like to extend my personal wishes to Ruth and her family for a speedy recovery. I guess it just goes to show that no one is out of reach of this horrible disease. If you’d like to show your support, please feel free to leave a supportive message on the band’s myspace page.

Hi Sonny. Sorry to hear about your friend…I’ve send a friend request so I can comment over there. My father’s just battled colon cancer and he’s doing very well, despite some other serious health issues at the time that had us deeply concerned (knocking on wood here). So I’m optomistic for Ruth…so much can be done these days. I’ll think of her and include her in my prayers (got a big list these days - Mom’s in hospice with inoperable brain cancer).
Hang in there Ruth. Keep smiling, it does wonders.

Gah… and chemotherapy to top it off. My father underwent chemo for quite a while before his heart attack and it wasn’t pleasant for any of us, least of all for him. My best wishes to her (no myspace account).

Thanks or the wishes everyone, I’ll be sure to pass them on.

Gahh, cancer is such a horrible thing to go through.
Let Ruth know she’ll be in my prayers for a very quick recovery. :)

Ruth, make it through. Please, you are beautiful…just make it through and be…you. (you remind me of my aunt, who didn;t, so just do. I know you will.)

My father-in-law and my best friend’s sister (early 40’s) both had colon cancer last year. Both have fully recovered very quickly after surgery, no chemo. Let’s hope it goes as well for Ruth.
Our prayers are with her and her family.

i’ve lost too many people i love to this horrible disease - most recently my best friend’s dad. but, i’m also fortunate enough to have seen many come through it as well. being surrounded by loving, supportive friends and family does wonders…prayers are being said, and fingers are crossed…

Horrible, I am flying to Vancouver Wed for a memorial service for my Uncle who just passed away from colon cancer. I wish anyone with such a disease for hope and early diagnosis. Life is so short.
