On July 31st, the US iTunes Store will be featuring Born Losers as the US single of the week. This means that US iTunes customers can download the track for free for a full week and will also be able to purchase the entire record as of that date as well. The record will be available on the US iTunes store for $7.99, with other back-catalogue items being the usual $9.99.

$7.99??? That is fucking insane for such an incredible piece of work. I was thinking today about how I had to pay $16 for a total piece of musical garbage and I get “HM” for the same cost. I just couldn’t believe the returned value in that.
Thanks for the killer price for such a great album.

Nice work Ryan!

Counting down the days….
Thanks!

Yeah that’s really cool.

Wow! That’s great! One always hears so much of the “Canadian artists needing/wanting success in the States” in order to “make it,” and the inevitable support AND backlash that comes from some people surrounding that…which, to someone who knows nothing about the subject…always seems like just bullshit. If I were an artist, I think I’d just want as many people as possible…regardless of what “market” they live in…to hear my stuff. And I suppose that is what has happened here! I guess you’ve just gained yourself access to a bigger audience! So regardless of where that audience is coming from….congrats!

I’m still interested to see what happens with Universal and iTunes, though I hear it’s all just a “negotiating tactic.”
$7.99 is a steal.
Report
Does this also mean it will be prominently featured in everyone’s copy of iTunes in the states saying: Single Of The Week: Matthew Good ?
Report
Will the album be released for download in the U.K?
Report
Even the back catalogue price is sweet. It’d cost me at least double that to buy in stores. Thanks.

Hey Matt just curious if you have had a chance to listen to the new Smashing Pumpkins album. It seems to have a lot of political commentary. Just wonder your opinion of it. Your one of my two of my favorite artists.
Report
That is awesome news for you, Matt, and the fans south of the 49th.
Report
Congratulations then! Free marketing can only be a good thing.

I’m not your mom or anything, obviously, but I will be hard pressed to avoid feeling like a proud relative the day you are featured on US i-Tunes. As a longtime US-based fan, I’ve been screaming your praises to anyone who will listen since 1999.
I SO hope this brings greater awareness of your music (in the US), since Apple has more friends to sing your praises to than I do. (Oh well, one can only be so popular…) I think I’ll just have to take screen-shots of it : )

I believe itunes and alike are the future of music. Electronic seems to be the way of the future for a lot of things and music is no different. But I must confess, ill always want a CD more then a album on my ipod. The music, the packaging, the artwork, the layout…all make the listening experience that much better. But that’s just me. Good thing im in Canada :) HM is out3 days after Cancun, what a great summer

Thanks, Ryan!

Wow, $7.99 is amazing…I’m still debating buying the disc though. Something about being able to hold it in my hands I guess and have the artwork, etc. I can’t wait to see Matt as the single of the week, it’s about time they get a good (no pun intended) artist featured for the single of the week.
Report
Hey that’s great news. I myself don’t use ITunes… being in America I’ve just purchased all my Matt Good albums from canadian based sites to avoid import prices. But having the single of the week on the cover page of U.S. ITunes sounds like great exposure that could help build a bigger U.S. fanbase. And maybe that means more live shows down here in the future. We can only hope.

I couldn’t have said it any better myself.
I hope this pans out, and that your expectations are exeeded Matt…
…and that you somehow cram Little Rock, Arkansas into that tour schedule…its not that far out of the way…

holy crap…
I’m friggin excited. and I live in Ottawa

Don’t forget all us little people when you become a cult hit down there… Wahhhhhhhhhhhh *tears*
An actual serious question though: Have you ever been asked to do appearances on Letterman/Conan, etc? Would you do it if so?
Report
That’s fantastic news, Matthew. Congrats. It will be nice to see you get some much-deserved exposure south of the border.
Wouldn’t it be odd (and ironic) if your final record for Universal is the one that gets the most attention?
Report
this is so awesome Matt, i’m very excited for you!

Wooooooooooooooh! Excellent news! Finally more exposure! :D

I’d like to know this as well? Any chance of ever seeing you on Later With Jools Holland in the UK? Would you do it if they asked you?

Congratulations are in order! That is fantastic news! Hopefully the american public will take this opportunity to enjoy your great music. i hope the album takes off!

That is OSMOND BABY !!!
I was thinking how in gods green earth am I gonna be able to buy the album being in Seattle. I figure If we can get this album heard here in the US we might actually be graced with Matt’s presence one day for a show.
Report
Oh, Matt, that’s awesome!
(The real thing is always the best, of course, but the import markup is just outrageous. Did you know the US version of amazon.com has “In a Coma” for $60? That’s just sick…)
Report
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congrats matt!

Very excited about having your album be released the same time as in Canada. Hopefully your album can create some buzz, with itunes being the 3rd largest retailer of music.
I’ve always been a huge proponent of yours in the U.S. One can only hope that this will help you in much needed exposure here south of the border.
Cheers

I am very happy for you Matt. Because of your hard work and dedication, you deserve great success.

waaaaaaaaaaaaitt a minute….does this mean we can’t buy a physical cd copy? :(
i hate itunes personally cause i think they’re trying to monopolize the industry by forcing everyone with ipods to go through itunes….thus why i wont buy an ipod in the first place
but if its the only place i can get it i guess im just gonna have to cave in….$7.99 is a steal
Report
Awesome. I already ordered the CD from amazon.ca - I think it was 13.98 or something and then 10 bucks to ship to my posh american residence (not!). So I have to pay more, but I like CD’s. And I can never find Underdogs in stock, is it out of print?
Report
Yes!!!!!!!! If sales are good will a US tour follow???????………….. HM and back log stuff
Report
Wow. Of all the artists, including many who are more into the commercialization of music, they have chosen you. Kudos to Apple, and kudos to you.
Report
Awesome. So happy for you and the us fans. :)

Will it be available in an iTunes plus version? (128k sucks)

If you want a physical copy of the CD, and you’re in the US, just order it from amazon.
Report
Good for you and your American fans (and soon-to-be fans).
I’ve ordered my hard copy from my local music store and they promised I could pick it up July 31.
$7.99 is a ridiculous price, but I suppose that way it is more accessible.
Can’t wait.

$7.99… what a steal.
I’d pay $7.99 to you PER SINGLE, brother, if i had to.

Hey, that’s great news for an MG fan sitting in Tucson an hour north of Mexico.

Can’t help to wonder what the next single will be… Matt, once again you’ve outdone yourself with your latest work of art.

You Yanks just don’t know how lucky you are. Getting Matt’s new album for $7.99 (which is under £4 here in the UK!)
Can’t see that being the price on the UK iTunes site :P
We’ll have to pay double again for the same product. Rip off Britain strikes back!!!!

Matt - HUGE Congrats!
Reading this news I just got chills of excitement on your behalf.
“Reap what you sow”, “What goes around comes around”, “Karma” call it what you will. I just think it is awesome that with this album (one that you have documented as being very therapeutic and from the heart) all the pre-release hype shows signs of being one of your most successful. I hope that all us consumers here in the states can follow through with a great amount of support.
I know that I, along with many of your fans, are very proud of you and the way you have grown and made it through some of the most difficult trials of your life and this album is a huge testament to the fact. In addition, I think we all feel as though we “know” you through your selfless efforts your willingness to share via this site. Even though 99% of us have never set foot in your presence or let alone helped contribute to your music we that come here to the site daily can in a way feel like part of this album (only b/c of your openess to fan inclusion). I thank you for who you are and greatly appreciate the opportunity you give to the masses to “vicariously live as Matthew Good”. Just know that as you post the positive and negative news of your life and music there are thousands of us out here rooting for your ultimate success in life, not just musically!

It’s a long time coming. Your US fans, who are very loyal and patient bunch from what I have observed, are more than deserving to receive what you have been wanting to give them for years. Congrats to you, and thanks to iTunes.

wow wonderful news, great work

This is exciting and I also hope this leads to some much deserved exposure in the US (and a tour) *grin*. I am still ordering the CD due to the sound limitations of 128k songs but I will certainly buy it on iTunes as well if it doesn’t show up on the 31st.
Congrats Matt!

This is great for everyone north of the equator, but someone like myself who either has to travel to Canada to visit relatives and but Matt Good albums when i am there, or have to get Canadian relatives to ship them to me in Australia, feels a little gyped. Universal released “Beautiful Midnight” and “Avalanche” in Australia but did absolutely nothing to promote them. I contacted the national youth broadcaster, JJJ, and they had a vague remeberance of something being released through Universal.
I wonder what the bloody hell is going on otu here when I here s number of Canadian artists on JJJ, who I will not mention, but none are up to the standard of Matt Good. When will this injustice be rectified. Surely “Hospital Music” should be given a run here. It is just about as good as “Avalanche” in my opinion and that was quite possibly the greatest album I have ever heard since I bought my first album in 1971.
Despite a lack of local interest, I will continue to push the Matt Good barrow to all and sundry who will lsiten.
Cheers
