This morning I was contacted by Bryan Webber of Nanaimo, BC, who tragically lost his 22 year old son Dylan recently from a seizure caused by an undiagnosed brain tumor. According to Bryan, Dylan was a big fan, and given that he sent me an email detailing his son’s love for my music, I thought it only proper to honour Dylan by returning the favour and thanking him for his support as a fan.
Despite the endless debates about music these days with regards to the web, etc, one thing that will never change is that that which touches us remains in our hearts and memories forever. Through music we document our lives, our loves and losses, our trials and tribulations, and our happiness. It is, without question, one of the most powerful and unifying forces known to man. And that being the case, I am honoured to have played even the smallest of roles in that regard in a complete stranger’s life.
My very warmest sentiments go out to Dylan’s family and friends, and I would like to thank Bryan for reminding me that all of this is about one simple truth in the end – a force that connects us all in a way that does not require persuasion or politic. That, like the wind, it simply hits us and reminds us that we are alive, and so more alike than ever we thought ourselves apart.
