A very well produced piece. Doesn’t tell us much that we don’t already know, but wow - excellent production value. Good to have out there for the masses.
August 29th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Wow, Suburbia sounded amazing.
August 29th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
Fantastic video.
August 29th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
That was great. My copy of Hospital Music finally arrived, and with the heavy work week I’ve had, it’s been such a pleasure to reconnect with your music, Matt.
Thanks.

August 29th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Wow suburbia indeed….
Now I’m 5x the depressed that my local shows soldout before I was able to grab tickets…
Suburbia kills me… gets better with age….and more and more relevant as this life gets worse and worse.

August 29th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
Can’t wait to hear Champions of Nothing live. HAve to drive down to Red Deer from Edmonton, but it’ll be worth it.
August 29th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
I think it works when you look directly into the camera. Especially when the subject matter is personal.
August 29th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
The piece turned out excellent. I wish it was a little longer though.
Love the crossed legs.
August 29th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
Suburbia was great!
That was some cool footage I had never seen before
August 29th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
I know I’m just repeating what everyone else has said but that was really amazing! I agree with Amelia, I wish it was longer!
Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us, your fans. You’re so talented and you deserve all things happy!
August 30th, 2007 at 12:31 am
Very well done… it gave me the chills! Suburbia was awesome.
August 30th, 2007 at 2:35 am
Nicely done! I’m really looking forward to the show!
August 30th, 2007 at 2:52 am
I’m not gonna rag on you about the smoking, not at all. But I wonder, have you found that it restricts your range in your singing voice at all? It doesn’t seem like it has restricted you in the least but I’ve heard many people say that once they quit they could hit higher notes.
August 30th, 2007 at 2:58 am
Ever since I began reading your page, and through the various articles and interviews you’ve shared, I’ve come to appreciate you honesty and earnestness, about both the subjects that are dear to you and your personal life. The kind of raw and naked honesty is both refreshing and startling in a society that is ever increasing the value of privacy; secrets become more and more of a commodity when nothing is off the market. Although our tabloid social scene clamours for the dirty details of those that seek to hide everything, your story lies stark and blatant as one of the view brave enough to reveal it all.
Without obviously trying to kiss your ass, I wanted to say that I admire your strength as a human being.
Thanks Matt.
August 30th, 2007 at 3:24 am
Solid video. I can not wait to see you in TO & Waterloo.
August 30th, 2007 at 5:17 am
I always admire how frank Matt is in his interviews, there’s no sugarcoating or excuses, just the truth.
I have a selfish fear that when Matt really hits it off in the States, the whole intimate experience that we have come to know and appreciate on this blog may change. It’s tough, I wish for his success, but I want him all to our Canadian selves at the same time.
Anyway, Suburbia does sound amazing in that clip, it would be awesome to hear that on the upcoming tour as it’s always been a favorite of mine.

PS - Tony’s beard is outta control. He looks like a villian from Pirattes of the Carribean.
August 30th, 2007 at 6:37 am
Great Video!
I’ve never before sat down listened to a cd front to back and felt it like this before.
I mean you “feel” what he’s singing, you don’t just hear it. Absolutely amazing!
Hospital Music a great piece of work!
Thanks Matt!

Great interview. As just about everybody has said, you sound amazing acoustically. I already knew this as I saw you in London during your last tour, but I’m wondering when you’ll put out a Live DVD of one of your acoustic tours. Maybe i’m just bitter that I am unable to see you live this time around (i’ve seen you each of your last 4 times around). Either way, I’d much rather a live DVD of acoustic stuff than with a full band (not that I wouldn’t buy it still). Enjoy the tour everybody!
August 30th, 2007 at 7:39 am
Great acoustic versions man!

Man Surbia acoustic just made me wish the London show was tonight! I really hope to hear that one in London, I always thoughti t’d translate well acoustically and well… hearing that clip just sealed the deal for me!

That was awesome… and I second the motion to quit smoking!! :)
August 30th, 2007 at 9:46 am
Suburbia. Wow.
You don’t even need the guitar, Matt. I’ve never heard a better acoustic artist, or one that is better able to capture an audience than you.
August 30th, 2007 at 10:17 am
yes…. quit smokin indeed…. i havent touched a cigarette since my 21st bday, july 5th, 2006 and still going strong….
August 30th, 2007 at 10:17 am
‘Suburbia’ and ‘Champions of Nothing’ gave me chills. Beautiful. Great interview too, very well put together.
And thank you Matt, knowing someone in your position so freely accepting of their illness makes it a lot easier for one such as myself to explain to their friends and family that they have something called bipolar without feeling so totally alone in it.
Cheers!

2 great songs
still smoking? :(
August 30th, 2007 at 11:29 am
very creative, on a deeper level. the use of the flickr pic and the nv private show etc good use of limited funds. same old story because it works bi polar issue which has plagued your life for many years but is now being sold to your fans just like the audio being era and the throat surgery, the more we change the more we stay the same. i know the shit that people say. im over it bad. great music all the same i am torn by the new sound of matthew good it good to hear the progress of his music because it is maturing but i still miss the old stuff. meaning hospital music is just as good as all the overs releases and maybe even better, on a personal not i like the way the album jumps around like audio of being the album its self is bi polar. the country feel should appeal well to the american market

while true, its nice to hear as each time something is said over and over some people (like matt) tend to put a different perestive or a new say on the same old things said before.
I couldn’t help but also notice the smoking as well
August 30th, 2007 at 11:59 am
Now I’m really upset..
I know Matt’s going to play Suburbia, one of my favorite ‘fall asleep to’ tunes, and I didn’t get tickets to the Vancouver show!
Know what would be sweet? Coming to Kelowna, or Vancouver real soon.. :p
August 30th, 2007 at 12:08 pm
Hey all-
I’m the guy who made the piece… I’m really glad you’re all digging it. I wanted it to have the feel of an art film that would thrust an audience unfamiliar with Matt’s music into the same sort of feeling of awe… being moved and inspired all at once… that I know we all get from listening to his albums. Feel free to post it, but keep in mind that if you live in the States, Current TV is a national cable network and this baby is going to air a whole lot of times, in a whole lot of homes, in the coming weeks starting today, so check the schedule at http://www.current.tv to find out when it’s going to be on. Also, if you think we did a good job, sending a note of appreciation to feedback@current.tv will guarantee lots of airtime.
Best,
Max

That was one of the best interviews I’ve seen about/with you yet. Only someone totally devoid of emotion could not be empathetic to what you’ve been through.
I don’t have enough words in me to tell you how grateful and happy I am that you are still around…*sniff*
August 30th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

Matt,
You gotta give us that acoustic version of Suburbia.
Great stuff. Hope to see you in Buffalo!

Really tasteful editing, didn’t make Matt look like another rock n roll drug addict or anything, it’s nice to finally see a couple of interviewers who let the Matt talk for more than a couple seconds before interupting him with another question.
August 30th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
Next time I see you smoking I’ll hit you :)
Not sure if you even know who this is, but you’ll clue in when I hit you. Hehehe.
August 30th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
its hard to see the interview through my tears………….. much love
August 30th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
Great you’ll quite before the tour then be Bitchy on stage!!!
J/K!!!
Will you be performing “while we were hunting rabbits” on stage? Specifically in Ottawa?
Can it be done acoustically even?
August 30th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
i really loved this interview it was very well done
and the acoustic music playing in the background was solid as always
but matt lay off the smokes!
August 30th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Great interview and it was good to see some additional footage from the Vegas show. Matt you are so smoking hot already, you don’t need those cigarette!. Can’t wait for the Buffalo show. I like when you make fun of Salvatore Italian Gardens and its hotel next door.
August 30th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
fade to star-swipe… cue ocean sounds! Beautiful, that’s a wrap boys
August 30th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
Is it Oct. 5th yet? (Buffalo concert). Wow that interview was amazing, I am counting down the days til the concert………just 36 days away.
August 30th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Is there a playlist yet for the tour?
August 31st, 2007 at 9:27 pm
I’ve been a fan of yours for years since the MGB but I’m not sure where I first heard you…but I did live in Buffalo for 3 years. I seriously am searching for the story behind “99% of Us Is Failure” as I’ve spent about 3 days wrapped up in this song, pissed I didn’t write it myself.
It’s brilliantly painful and I’m entirely thankful to you for it, not being able to find the words to say what I’ve been feeling the past few months following a loss of my own.
I’m happy I stumbled onto iTunes to find it.
Make it to Philadelphia, won’t you? I’d love to see you at the Fillmore at the TLA (formerly known as the TLA).
