Police Accused Of Infiltrating Protest Group And Attempting To Incite Violence
August 22, 2007, Matthew Good Something rather interesting has come to light regarding the possibility of police placed within a group of protestors that seem to have been implanted to incite violence. In a video taken by one of the protesters, CEP Union leader Dave Cole is shown attempting to defuse tensions between a group of protesters and a police line. The men that he singles out are carrying stones, their faces covered with bandanas. When confronted by Cole, and other protesters, the men move suspiciously towards the police line to the point where they are right up against it, and yet the police do nothing. Cole is then informed by one of the youths in the group being singled out that the men aren’t with them and are believed to be police officers. Cole then confronts the men, who refuse to reveal their identities, and proceed to push Cole. They are then scorned by the crowd and openly labeled as being police officers, at which time they push into the police line and are taken down and handcuffed by the authorities.
Now, this could simply be a case of three radicals independently trying to incite violence, and I completely admire Cole’s actions and repeated assertions that the protest is a peaceful one and that such behaviour will not be tolerated. But if you watch the video, specifically the part where the men are being escorted by the authorities after being seized, you’ll notice that they are walking along with them at a leisurely place, offering no resistance whatsoever, which is a little bizarre given that only moments before they were prepared to hurl stones at the police from close range.
That said, watch the video and judge for yourself…
Also of interest, and brought to my attention by a commenter in my last entry, is a photograph that reveals something odd…
If you’re a police plant trying to whip protestors into a state of aggression – change your footwear first.
Lastly, according to the CBC, thousands attended the protest, unfortunately making the Prime Minister’s assertion the other day seem somewhat hasty.
