Buffalo, Snow Day
Buffalo – covered in snow as always. But I’m not one to preach. At home, on the warm West Coast, my sunny city by the bay is in the grips of a freak blizzard. Lance and I have decided that we’ve had enough – we’re moving to a Southern State where it’s warm and there are Waffle House’s every three blocks and Cheerwine flows from the faucets.
My friend Pat Grant sent me the following clip of poet Darian Dauchan that is definitely worth a look. The piece he performs in this clip is entitled Damn You Barack Obama, You Pretty Mother Fucker…

Haha, very funny. the foibles US politics are a bit difficult to grasp here in the UK. Mind you politicians the world over are the same aren’t they? To roughly quote David Ford “The big clever men do all that and all this’n they talk and they talk but they don’t fuckin’ listen..”. I like that. Never trust any of them. When they pat your back they are just looking for somewhere to put the knife. Ain’t the weather weird? It seems nothing shocks us now. I mean, there we have one of the world’s biggest ice shelves splitting in two last week and it is reported on the UK news channels with mundane indifference. Now…Britney, or our Country’s drinking habits, or now the ‘chaos’ at Heathrow Terminal 5 – now THAT’s REAL news!! We’re dumbed down and desensitised over here. Screw the BBC. Is it the same for you Matt? I stayed with some great guys once in the Slocan Valley…they too hated the way Canada was slowly being absorbed by the US, like some sort of creeping osmosis…
It snowed in England last week. Crap, freezing, shitty Easter holiday. Wish I was watching you instead. Enjoy home…please come and see us soon. I am spreading the Word as fast as I can.
xx

This poet really hits the feeling I had when I gambled and voted for him in the primary…
I want Obama to be for real so bad- an idealist with a shot at holding office. I feel like it is almost worth the risk rather than voting for someone who is clearly part of the political machine. What’s the worst that can happen? He’ll be as bad as the rest or secretly worse… still the chance of something more seems worth it.

You are pretty spoiled over there in BC - we got snow here again in Southwestern, ONtario.. story of our lives *pout*
That was brilliant Darian Dauchan rocks he’s so funny but gets the point across at the same time.. w00t.

No joke! Barack is a very pretty man. He’s causing a real ruckus in the straight community stateside since we’d all like him to be the first gay president.

lmao great video, the man is a poetic genius. ^_^
buffalo’s snowy eh? its still pretty snow covered here.
i came up with this silly masterplan to venture down there for the show tomorrow, alas, i lack the sufficient funds aha, i have enough to get there, but not get back. and since being stranded in buffalo was not part of my to do list for the month, i think i will sit this one out.. besides, toronto would miss me too much ;)

That dude is truly talented.

I keep saying it, but if I didn’t have to work tomorrow, i’d make the 7 hour drive up there. I guess I should’ve planned better, eh?
As for moving south, I lived in Florida when I was young for a short time but didn’t care for it that much. But the older I get, the more appealing it is. I hate winter, cold and snow more than anything, yet I find myself moving further north (NY to Toronto). Funny how that works.

“Damn you Barack
For turning this cynic into a believer”
Perfect.

Please play “The Rat Who Would Be King” at the Buffalo Show. If you do I’ll take in for a spin around the block in my MINI.

For some reason… Every time my dog hears “Barack Obama” he tilts his head and wags his tail… Every time! He doesn’t do it for any other name! Lol.

I just read that you will be unable to stick around after the show tomorrow night! Bummer!
Good thing that I was able to meet you on your last date………you don’t need any more germs anyways.
Hoping to meet with you again soon!
Love from where you are!

That was fantastic… too bad I couldn’t understand half of what he was saying.
And you west coasters really need to stop whining when you get some snow here and there. Try living on the prairies. Pretty much every year here in Edmonton, we get a week or two where it is -35°C or -40°C every day. But, I won’t complain too much, because winter brings hockey, and snowboarding.

After attempting to see the concert in Rochester last weekend I then flew onto Montgomery, Alabama from there. AND IT SNOWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanted to let you know that it’s not always warmer down there. I then flew back home to Toronto this past Wednesday and arrived back to SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t escape the stuff. BUT I did eat breakfast at the Waffle House while I was there.
;p

Yes, we in the great lakes region are quite familiar with snow. Hope you stay warm during your stay in Buffalo. Try to get out and enjoy the food while you’re there, there’s some pretty good restaurants down town.

just finished invisible man last night

Neat. That amazing video captures a whole bunch of my broken hearts in one convenient package. I like “audacity of hope” - makes me feel more like a rebel, less like a loser.
Cheerwine sounds nice.
Wish I had a car and/or some spare money and time so I could take a mini-vacation to Buffalo for the grand finale. Have a great show tomorrow!
March 28th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Goddamn Buffalo and our snow.
March 28th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
I’ll be flying up to Buffalo tomorrow morning from NC… and I absolutely cannot wait to see the show!
And, for the record, Waffle House = love.
March 28th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
It was cool to see you today in the Buffalo Airport- insignificant to you, but the chance encounter made my day- how many people can actually say that they had come face to face with one of their favorite artists? Too cool. See you Tomorrow at Infinity for the show- 4th times the charm! p.s quit lying about the snow here in Buffalo- it was 34 and sunny.
March 28th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
How boring to live in a place where the answer to the question “what’s the weather like today?” is always the same. No thanks. Spring and summer require the prelude of snow.
March 29th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Well, I’m a stranger to Cheerwine, but I’m *sure* we’ve got some Waffle Houses around VA somewhere. And it *is* fairly warm here. Come join us! You might not like the summers, though - it’s so humid you can practically drink the air. On the other hand, that might be preferable to the many feet of snow my Canadian friends have been complaining about.
March 29th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
god dammit, CHEERWINE! I forgot about that stuff…now I’ll have to find some. But I’m in Ohio. I think the closest place that has it is Tennessee. Dammit.
