Oh geez...couldn't help but laugh!

It's too bad about all these demonstarations and rallies to protest the games, because its really about the athletes.

Maybe shut up until AFTER the Olympics; then maybe you can start the demonstrating again...?
You're wrong in it being about the athletes only...countries wouldn't fight so hard to host the Olympics if it were.

While the Olympics are a sporting event, they're also promoted and used as an opportunity to "showcase" countries to the world and, in doing so, it's important that all elements are exposed - not just the beautiful landscape and positive aspects. It's time to see the good, the bad and the ugly (if they're present).

My city is participating in the 2010 games and the Mayor has announced a huge, extremely expensive ($10 million) party here - both pre and post games. It has nothing to do with the "athletes" and, in his own words, is to "boost our ego" and have us seen as something more than just an extension of Vancouver. To put us on the map. And that has nothing to do with "athletes" or "sport".

The fact that there are two views about two views about the Olypmics

The Chinese government certainly doesn't see it exclusively that way. They see it as formal recognition of their having become a major nation.

Since when has something as trivial as sports been a good excuse for people to not practice their rights to free speech? The Olympics should be about the athletes but as long as nations treat it as a pissing contest and a tool for propaganda people won't stop speaking out about what they believe.

I think people were (or would be) protesting the recent events in Tibet regardless of the Olympics. To be more accurate I'm sure most people are protesting Chinese policies not the Olympics. All the Olympics is doing is providing very visible places to protest and some symbols that can be used to hammer home the protesters message. (extinguishing the flame and such)

I've seen the above image before, and I'll agree with other posters it's both funny and sadly close to the truth. I do believe there is a panel missing where they harvest the dead man's organs for sale

Dissent or be a Christian and that is surely your fate; and the mercy will be if you are shot that quickly in many cases this would be the best case scenario being alive and in the governments bad graces can be much worse. I was just reading an article on World Net Daily about this very thing posted by Bob Unruh. We truly have no idea how precious our freedoms are here in North America (Specifically speaking of the US for myself.)

The video images from the games with thousands of people wearing masks to filter out particulate pollution should be great PR as well.

It seems silly to me that they are protesting Beijing for a few short reasons:

1) No one would have protested if it were in the United States.
2) Why weren't people protesting anyway, if China is so bad. This is not a defence of China; rather, an indictment of poor fools caught up by media and marketing.
3) The Olympics is such a mean-spirited, bull shit piece of Capitalism, anyway.

I fucking hate the Olympics.

The images are apparently from a parody cartoon ad:

(I promise this is not a RickRoll. Search on YouTube for "Olympic Gold for China".)

The same folks also did a followup:

Oh, could very well be true. Sad is right.

Considering what the Olympics are doing to this city, I like the spin my friend put on our logo:
