Insult To Injury

After decimating Fallujah, what better way to further denigrate the Sunni Muslim population than by handing out coins featuring…

Side One: Where will you spend eternity?

Side Two: For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16.

That’s precisely what some Marines at the Western entrance to the city have been doing.

Numerous Marines posted at the Western entrance to the city have been distributing the coins to residents entering through the checkpoint, thrusting them into their hands. Fearing what might happen if they don’t accept them, most residents have accepted them without question, but the message that such an activity promotes has angered many of the city’s residents, forcing local commanders to investigate the matter.

To some this might not seem all that big a deal. After all, Christian missionaries do it on a daily basis throughout the world in nations where other religions are predominant. But given what befell the city of Fallujah as a result of operations Vigilant Resolve and Phantom Fury, you would think that something of this nature would be viewed as completely out of the question.

It is estimated that some 6,000 Iraqis died during the US assaults on Fallujah, displacing hundreds of thousands more. It also rendered much of the city damaged, destroying an estimated 10,000 homes and damaging two thirds of the city’s remaining buildings. The First and Second battles of Fallujah were the heavies urban military encounters since the Battle of Huế in Vietnam in 1968, according to the US military. To this day, residents must produce identification cards before being allowed to enter the city.

Ah, glorious liberation.

The military said it’s only one guy… I wonder if that’s the case. That would make more sense to me– a misguided Bible-thumper acting on his own, trying to save the heathens. If it was an organized effort– how completely disgraceful.

Not too surprising to me. The same people provocatively shit on Q’urans in Guantanamo which they had taken away from some of the prisoners. And then: remember the war slogans George Bush came up with in 2002/2003. They were full of religious messages. This war was lead fortright in the name of god - the christian god.

It must be so humiliating. How low will some people stoop? And talk about fanning flames…

    The Bible is:
    1) The most powerful book ever
    2) The most criticized book ever
    3) The most controversial book ever
My own Pastor has made these comments on numerous occasions!

At least that way, the Marines are making damn sure the godless Muslims will go to a righteous heaven when they are strafed by gunfire…
    now there’s some prophecy…

    So, wait.

Members of the military promoting their political opinions (as discussed in previous post) = forbidden by military code.

Members of the military promoting their religious opinions = okay?

The controversy over the coins that Iraqis said some Marines are passing out comes on the heels of a tempest triggered by a U.S. sniper who used the Quran, Islam’s holy book, for target practice. The sniper was pulled out of Iraq after Iraqi police on May 11 found a Quran with 14 bullet holes and graffiti on the pages…. full of religious messages. True, how low can you go?

-and I guess they were attacking Iraq in the name of god, and scooping up fathers and sons from civilians’ homes in the name of god. I also suppose that means they were torturing prisoners for information they didn’t possess, again, in the name of god.

I find its always easier for people to justify murder, imperialism, displacement, and invasion when you put a
Good vs. Evil spin on it.

    Religious Propaganda!!!!

There’s a lot of religious propaganda thrown around this little city too. From church signs to peddlers (the ones that try to sell everlasting love and glory door to door) to anti-gay, hate mongering, pro-protect-Canada’s-sovereignty pamphlets from good old Chuck Strahl.

I usually find self proclaimed warriors of Christ to be the ones who need saving the most.

No, not okay, that’s forbidden by the military as well; they apologized and said they’re investigating, and said it was only one member.

I highly doubt that this is an organized effort from the military - they are not stupid enough. Question is what are they going to do to the guy? They are always investigating something with little or no result. If they were ever to show, at the very beginning of the invasion that any soldier breaking the rules of the army or law of the country will suffer the consequences immediately and not after a lengthy investigation, relationship between the general population and the army might have been slightly different.

    What’s next,
Droping bombs then bibles on the survivors???
I’d like to think this is an isolated coin-sident.
