I completely agree with you. I can watch maybe five minutes of regular television before I get disgusted and switch it off, wondering how on Earth people stand it.

Couldn't get on this site to publish the other day, and unwittingly disregarded an authored entry by Dale, and suggested a show for you...so, my apologies to Dale and you.

Back to good television...well written, witty and intriguing television only exists with Dexter…you’ll have to play catch up.
DVD sets have become my main source of viewing entertainment. My current nightly ritual is the BBC Planet Earth set. I highly recommend it.
I'll join in highly recommending Planet Earth. It was and still is easily the most rewarding bit of visual media I've bought in a long time.

Also, as a general statement, if you like the style of humor in Family Guy but enjoy a cartoon with a plot thick with the roots of its jokes, along with great conversational humor and clever writing, check out Frisky Dingo.

I really am not sure how so many people can spend so much time watching TV either. I personally hate it, i flip through the channels now and then and it's pretty much all crap and more often then not it puts me in a bad mood. It's really blows my mind.

When i do watch TV however it's the wheather network for maybe 15min. A hockey game or the news, But the news makes me sick after 10mins or so as well. The Cobert report i find hilarious as well, so i watch that whenever i see that it's on. And then theres the History channel which i used to watch alot but in the last year or two it has slowly degrated into bullshit. programs that have nothing to do with history (CSI etc) and also movies that have nothing to do with history (Fight club? Justice for all?) like what the fuck. awsome movies and nothing against Al Pacino.

There should be some kind board or commite that reviews all the commercials made that year. And the ones that are judged the worst, the people who made them get guillotined in town square live on television. And there would be no commercials while it is aired.

I don't know what the big f'in deal is with that show but I just want to go to one of those competitions and storm the stage and break into the "drunk-white-guy-at-a-wedding-necktie-around-the-head" dance that I have absolutely perfected. Like my wife said, "It must be terrible if the girls are all 3/4 naked in it and you still hate it".
...and the one thing I would sit down to watch this week (Man.U. vs. Chelsea) is on at 11am tomorrow. Back to Prime Time bullshit. There's normally two sounds you hear around my office during the day; the ladies frequent conversations about "Dancing With the Stars" and me banging my head off my desk.
OMG Thank you!!! Can someone please tell me what the big deal is with this show?

I would highly advise purchasing a DVR for those who can't help but watch television. It will record what you want to watch and you can save numerous amounts of shows before all the space is full. You can fast forward through all the commercials and just delete when you don't want it anymore. 60 percent of mine is full with only episodes of Jeopardy. The rest are random episodes of South Park, The Wire, Tim and Eric, shows of the History Channel and National Geographic. Oh, and some great movies off of the Sundance Channel and Independent Film Channel. If you're willing to pay a little bit for a Tivo or DVR you will never have to deal with commercials again. Though I'm sure they will find away to sneak them in somehow. Product placements are on the rise I've heard. Best advice: stay away from the major corporate channels. Their product is weak and the commercials are plentiful.

I think Roger Waters said it best with this lyric from the title track of his album Amused to Death:

No tears to cry, no feelings left

TV is pretty bad unless it's on cable. Or unless you just buy the set on DVD.
The Wire, Rescue Me and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are great.
I still love Lost, but god the commercials are endless when it airs.

I grew up on television, so I don't even really think about the commercials anymore. I think that as a child I learned to daydream during them to keep me from losing interest in whatever I was watching. That said, I had a falling out with television many years ago when The Simpsons stopped being very good, after I got tired of grew out of Family Guy (it's still funny, but not something I watch regularly), and once I started working during my usual TV time. Arrested Development almost pulled me back in, but then the damn thing got canceled. Now I only turn it on for the Daily Show and Colbert Report (religiously), for background entertainment while eating, and when I need something to do around the apartment with the girlfriend over.

My roommate loves it though. Television is to him what music is to me--something to have on all day while doing other things.

The commercials are better than the shows themselves. In this day and age of cable and satellite you have 200 plus chanels and not a god damn thing worth watching. I am so tired of reality televsion. I find myself reading a lot these days.....

I knew you had to collect something! As a CD collector myself (of yours and others), I fully understand that sort of daily hunt.

My current living situation has me getting somewhat reacquainted with TV, which I haven't watched in 3 years, and I was just pointing out the same thing about commercials to my friends the other day. Also, I despise how commcercials always use that "Don't you know, we're here to save your life" tone of voice, it kills me.
