Tomorrow I head east for ten days of rehearsals prior to starting the tour on the 20th at The Empire Theatre. I haven’t played with a band since November of 2005, so it should be a mixture of fun, interesting, and Jesus Christ Matt – wake up!!
Most of my clothes went out last week with my gear, so I don’t have a lot to pack. Playing acoustic shows is a lot different than playing with a band, you don’t really sweat too badly; unlike the Jane Fonda work out that occurs on a nightly basis during rock shows. Therefore, when it comes to such tours, especially if they’re for an extended period of time, you have to make sure you pack enough clothes. Chances are the ones you walk off stage in will be too wet to continue wearing, meaning that you have to change after every show. That leads, of course, to a lot of laundry (I don’t have fancy wardrobe changes or people that prance around taking care of elaborate outfits. I wish I did, because I would like to wear a suit made entirely of tiny mirrors at some point in the performance and blind everyone, but it’s just not in the cards).
So tomorrow I’ll get on a plane and make a trip that I have made hundreds of times in the past, get in late, check into my hotel, and begin the process of watching every film available on Video On Demand. I will then get up on Friday morning and go to work.
And so it begins. Again.
Flickr Photo Set For The Tour
As has been the case during the last two tours, I’ll be taking photos and posting videos during this one. You can check out everything tour related by visiting the 2008 Band Tour Photo Set on my flickr page.

Enjoy the newness of being with a band once again.

Are there still shows TBA or should I give up hoping for a return to my province?

Perhaps you can get your hands on a superhero suit of sorts. Always dry, no wrinkling, very easy to pack. Of course if it’s summer you may want to forego the spandex version; too hot.
Happy travels, wherever you are headed. On Demand movies are kind of slim pickens lately so good luck with that. Hey, this just makes me think - I’ll see you in just over a month. Fabulous. Travel safely!

I’ll gladly do your laundry!
….I never thought I’d hear myself utter those words!

I can’t get the image of you in a suit made entirely of tiny mirrors out of my head…hahaha. Golden. I may have to design one of those for you to wear on the next tour.
Have fun out there!

I am also very excited about the full band tour, I have my ticket for the Massey Hall show, I am coming down from Barrie and have never been to Massey Hall, and only to T.O a half dozen times…can anyone help me out with directions for getting down there??? any advice???

Le sigh. I guess I will be coughforcedcough to be satisfied with the AMAZING acoustic show that I saw in Portland to hold me over until I update my passport. Who knew that if you got it before the age of 18 you had to renew it within 5 years? And of course, by the time the passport arrives, the tour will be over…or at least out of reach of my Honda Civic and vacation time. Le sigh.
May you have safe and happy travels Matthew Good!

Spinal Tap
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and…
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it’s louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it’s one louder, isn’t it? It’s not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You’re on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you’re on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don’t know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don’t you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

Can’t wait for you to hit Edmonton in late June.
The tiny mirrors would be cool, but perhaps a bit too… Elton John.
Anyways, crank it up to 11, and have a blast Matt. I know all of your fans will.

Make sure you keep your happy pills in your carry on during your flights this tour.
Oh, and by the way, I hope you got a chance to read the e-mail I sent the other day.
Safe travels, and get plenty of good sleep. Shouldn’t be a problem after your workouts on stage.
No more insomnia tours.

unless where i’m going to will (most likely) escalate (erupt) into a conflict/war and will prevent me from leaving t.o.; in which case i PRAY that there are tickets left!!!!

I actually have a friend who wore (on stage) a kimono made of tiny refractive silver panels - somewhere between sequins and mirrors. It was (obviously) awesome.

good luck with your ‘attempt to go to the massey show’ quest! i know exactly how you feel. i was beyond devestated when i couldnt make it to the show in october :( i was pretty jealous of everyone going which actually sounds quite silly, but it does suck being the left behind who either couldnt afford tickets at the time or just couldnt get any before they were gone. i actually feel quite lucky to have gotten tickets to this one. honestly, wishing you the best on your ticket finding journey.

Sweet! On the road again…It must be crazy exciting to be playing with a band again..You mentioned earlier that you have never met these musicians..Is that for real? Is it possible to find some chemistry in 10 days? Hopefully the drummer is rock solid ..should keep everything glued for ya..
Matt you mentioned trying to remember old songs that you haven’t played for awhile let alone remembering the tuning for the song LOL that really made me laugh. As a guitar player some times i record those one shot moments that can never be duplicated…or you try to play the song again and it goes from a killer rock tune to some casonova music moment in the sun.
Anyways I’m sure it will be sounding awesome! Cant wait to see you in Kamloops. BC…my first live show!..ya i know get with the program… timing m8 timing! Good Luck and have fun!…Movies? Maybe a little Scarface at 3am will get the ball rolling for ya…”say hello to my little friend”

Satvia, don’t feel bad. Matt’s Vancouver show in June will also be my first live show! I’m guarding the tickets with my life.

Oh yeah! You’re going on tour! I almost forgot for a minute. Silly me.
That is going to be a long but awesome 48 hour period - I got tickets to see Kids in the Hall in London the night before, I have to be back in Sarnia for work at 4:30pm, and then I run to the Imperial from work - I will be late, but I’ll be there none the less. :)

I am desperatley looking for someone to buddy up with in Kingston if you’re interested….I’m flying in from London to Toronto and then taking a commuter flight to Kingston. It’s costing me shitloads from the UK but,,,, what the f*ck… :0) I’m not rich but, having lost so many members of my immediate family over the past few years, realise that life is too f*cking short for regrets. Looking forward to the tour!!… I’m heading over to catch a few shows on the West Coast, from Australia.
I’m with you Stormydog - life’s too short. I heard whispers Matt was going to do a band tour and thought “if it happens July/August - I’m in. Well, close enough!
I’m really hoping he plays Fated acoustically (my favourite tune of all) in either Kamloops, Vancouver, Victoria or Nanaimo. (hint, hint… please, for someone who’s coming from the arse-end of the world??) I’m looking for some folks to hang with at any of these gigs, too.
Rock on, Matt! I’m pumped and looking forward to my first live experiences!!
