So the Department of Foreign Affairs is investigating itself. One wonders who at the Department of Foreign Affairs is actually undertaking that investigation being that, since Bernier’s resignation, the entire senior staff has been dismissed, including Bernier’s chief of staff, and the remaining staff is skeletal at best.

An intern perhaps?

Also of interest is that during a recent TVA interview, Couillard claimed that she was approached to be a Conservative candidate, something that has been rather overlooked by the mainstream media.

I think they said David Emerson has “temporarily” taken over the portfolio — so, he can pretty much supervise that intern.

True. He can check his Blackberry for progress updates from a local watering hole.

    06 / 01 / 21:23
  3. 3

And with any luck that local watering hole’d have some sort of unfortunate connection to some disreputable “group” and he’d leave it there. For weeks.

    Too soon? Pssh.

How cool are we? — our Minister for International Trade does foreign affairs in his spare time. Hmm… telling.

“…Couillard claimed that she was approached to be a Conservative candidate,”

Oy vey! Isn’t that the first sign of the Apocalypse? Dating Hells Angels and perfect cleavage…sounds like a great political resume to me.

Next election I think I’ll vote for the Marijuana Party, at least stoners have an excuse for their stupidity and forgetfulness.

And whatever David Emerson knows about foreign affairs could probably slide under Lester Pearson’s fingernail.

Maybe instead of recruiting Couillard to be a candidate, they could hire her on in Foreign Affairs, and *she* could run the investigation! After all, she’s sort of got the inside track already… she’s already been given access to all relevant documents. *blink, blink*

(Couillard claimed a lot of things in that interview. Doesn’t mean they didn’t happen, but… I’m taking it all with a grain of salt.)

Apparently Emerson is only taking over “briefly” - whatever that means these days.

COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC: found and rediscovered underdogs this morning and had the best workout!! Awesome CD! So excited for the 9th!!

Couillard should definitely run for the Conservatives - she’d fit right in with the rest of the tits.

We could put Anne Coulter in a straight jacket and mask like in Hannibal and have her in Ottawa in 5 hours to take over your foreign affairs!!

Hillary Clinton is apparently conceding tomorrow evening; she could FedEx her cleavage-concealing pantsuits up to Couillard.

Haha. This probably isn’t far from the truth.

What else is there to say, really?

I love when the gov’t investigates itself. It would be like me cheating on my wife, and then when the wife finds out i say i will investigate myself to see if i’ve cheated with other women before. Nope wifey my findings say i only cheated once!

“A House of Commons committee has launched an inquiry into the Maxime Bernier affair despite Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s insistence that an internal review would be enough.

Opposition MPs on the public safety committee, led by the Bloc Québécois, out-voted the Conservative minority on Monday to expedite an investigation into the political storm involving Bernier and ex-girlfriend Julie Couillard, who had ties to criminal biker gang members.

The move came after Harper dismissed calls for an independent inquiry or an RCMP investigation on Monday in the House.

The committee probe will begin next Tuesday.” From the CBC.

Ahhh if only the Bloc were aliens then the probe………….

Speaking of paying the bills, Liberal leader Stephane Dion’s leadership debts must be paid by the end of today (according to Elections Canada rules). The outstanding figure is suspected to be in the $600 000 range, according to published reports.

Bob Rae and Carolyn Bennett are the only two Liberals from December 2006’s race to have repaid their donors (congrats!).

The question that begs be asked: Since Stephane Dion, and other prominent Liberal MPs, owe excesses of money to wealthy elites: Who owns Stephane Dion and the Liberal Party?

In other news, Parliament gets set to lose an MP of principle in the NDP’s Alexa McDonough:

Not that I want to appear a Liberal apoligist, but in the interest of accuracy it should be pointed out that ChrisMcCluskey isn’t telling the truth: Elections Canada rules state only that an accounting of debt and an accepted schedule for repayment must be in place by the end of today.

“Any unpaid debt after 18 months will be deemed to be a contribution and must follow contribution rules and limits, unless the debt falls under one of four exceptions
    (CEA, s. 435.29(2)):

    * It is the subject of a binding agreement to pay (i.e. a valid and enforceable contract)
    * It is the subject of a legal proceeding to recover its payment (in this case, no authorization is required from the Chief Electoral Officer even if the payment is after the 18-month period)
    * It is the subject of a dispute as to the amount owed, or
    * It was written off by the creditor as uncollectible, in accordance with the creditor’s normal accounting practices (in this case, there would no longer be any outstanding debt)”

    So:

The fact that he now needs extra time to repay the $350,000 indicates the repayment agreement or contract has not been fulfilled.

If I am misinformed, I hope to be corrected for the purposes of accurate discussion (I welcome it). To peterjohn: Please don’t insinuate that I am here to lie to people. Thank you.

*I apologize for the type in my last post. Too many numbers today. The figure should read “$600 000″, not “$350 000″.
