Talking Silverware: True Conversationalists

Space July 31, 2008, Matthew Good

Battle of the sexes, don’t need it, far too tired this morning. We’re all to blame, porn is to blame, the pipe fitter makes $70 bucks an hour! The world’s just like Beauty And The Beast, except not a cartoon and without the talking inanimate objects – though that depends on your state of mind really.

And I haven’t even fucking seen Beauty And The Beast.

I have, on the other hand, read Skinny Legs And All, and would claim that it’s a far better love story. It too involves talking inanimate objects. Then again, given that it was written by Tom Robbins, he’s probably had a conversation with a spoon at some point in the past, so at least there’s a chance that it’s somewhat autobiographical.

Talking inanimate objects aside, if you’re a Vancouver resident don’t forget that Dave Eby is running for city council. You can check out his official website for updates and information.

Que? what happened to the lively discussion and the last post? I know it’s your website and all, but it’s a bit of a bitch to have something people were obviously relating to removed in its entirety because you are bored with it. Unless it was violating the website policies, which it might have been, though it wasn’t apparent to me.

There are two sides to every entry Susan. The comments left on the website and the emails that I get that no one else has to read (and then vomit because of). And really, waking up to emails from singles about how they’re this and that and would I consider this and that isn’t all that alluring to me, especially when they perplexingly attack me at the same time.

And in truth, yes, it is my website, so I can pretty much delete whatever I want. That’s the beauty of it. The entry lives on though via the RSS feed.

Ah, so people took your post to be some veiled attempt at looking for love and came to your rescue? Yikes. Ya, gotta say, that doesn’t go well with morning coffee. That relationship/sex/gender nerve continues to be a raw one. Guess it’s why it is so effectively employed as a marketing tool for everything from cars to jeans and beer. Now if we could only edit our lives the same way we can a blog….

Re: Vancouver Council. I hope David is successful, but I also hope there are others of his ilk running. Being the only voice in the wilderness might be more frustrating than effective.

Matt, your just hot stuff. Smashing dark brown eyes, a sense of humour, wit, super keen intelligence, its your fault :P

But seriously, thats tacky. I read your entry and was touched. Cause frankly, your right. In so many ways. Your perceptions are your reality. You see things differently, due to the lifestyle you have led and do lead. In some small way, I envy it and then I think of how happy I am, I will never have to guess what the *person* who is claiming to adore me, is really all about. Are they with me for what I am? Or for what they think I am?

Its a dark world out there, and someone honest to share life with, is really hard to find.

And if I could, I would vote for David Eby.. I love the way he thinks. And small changes bring about huge differences..

and..

Beauty and the Beast was a great movie.. I still have the lunch box!

Matt…Come on man, get in touch with the 8 year old girl in you!
Beauty and the Beast is a Disney masterpeice! I’m 27 and still got excited last year at Christmas when I bought the movie for my neice and snuggled up with her on the couch to watch it.

Off topic, this relates to your deleted post about cyber dating. I’ve been single for 2 years now after a long relationship. I hates dating because I keep meeting the world’s biggest douche-bags so I actually tried internet dating for a very breif period of time. It’s like shopping on ebay, bidding to find the world wide web’s biggest douche-bag. It’s impersonal, cold and kind of creepy actually. I’ve never actually met in person the guys that I talk to…cause let me tell ya, people have no censorship and WAY too much confidence when they are not in front of you. So in case you were ever going to consider this form of dating on a professional web site or with the creeps that sent you love notes after that last entry, do yourself a favor and don’t.

A HA! Thank you ceiling cat..my prayers have been answered…no wonder i wasnt getting anywhere with my gingham cat theory..

The gingham dog and the calico cat
Side by side on the table sat;
‘T was half-past twelve and (what do you think!)
Nor one nor t’other had slept a wink!
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plate
Appeared to know as sure as fate
There was going to be a terrible spat.
(I wasn’t there; I simply state
What was told to me by the Chinese plate!)

The gingham dog went “bow-wow-wow!”
And the calico cat replied “mee-ow!”
The air was littered, an hour or so,
With bits of gingham and calico,
While the old Dutch clock in the chimney-place
Up with its hands before its face
For it always dreaded a family row!
(Now mind: I’m only telling you
What the old Dutch clock declares is true!)

The Chinese plate looked very blue,
And wailed, “Oh, dear! What shall we do!”
But the gingham dog and the calico cat
Wallowed this way and tumbled that,
Employing every tooth and claw
In the awfullest way you ever saw-
And, oh! How the gingham and calico flew!
(Don’t fancy I exaggerate-
I got my news from the Chinese plate!)

Next morning, where the two had sat
They found no trace of dog or cat;
And some folks think unto this day
That burglars stole that pair away!
But the truth about the cat and pup
Is this: They ate each other up!
Now what do you really think of that!
(The old Dutch clock it told me so,
And that is how I came to know.)

We’re all sitting inside wishing it was sunny, I think, so we could get out there and not sit on our computers talking about Disney..

Matt, as always……… YOU STARTED IT!!!!!! HA HA HAH.

p.s. Disney is an oddball, I agree. I was shocked to see Nemo hook back up with his dad at the end of that one.. but yes, momma dies….. It’s all about survival.. that is Disney’s motto, I gather…. children out there in the world finding themselves without parents. or taking what they learned from their parents, having them die and figuring it all out on their own.

Has anyone seen Wall-E yet? NOT FOR KIDS TO FIGURE OUT IMO… it’s cute for kids, interesting concept for adults to swallow, but they (kids) won’t understand what it stands for….

sorry, we’re on the movie topic right now, can’t help it..

It would have been so animated and ridiculous. Sometimes it’s great to ignore the weight of the world and recharge the batteries with some good old silliness.
Hey, don’t you be knockin’ Disney movies now….how do you think we women ended up with that idea of the knight in shining armor coming to our rescue???
The Little Mermaid rocked! Ever wonder why none of the characters in any of the Disney classics never had a mother? Am I the only one? Seriously…Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid….where’s the mom??
I know Matt, lame, very lame:P
Lets see…where’s mom.

Cinderella- Dead.
Snow White- Dead.
Beauty and the Beast- Dead.
The Little Mermaid- I think they were avoiding the controversy of polygamy in a Disney movie.

Speaking of the little mermaid. Part 3 centres on Ariel’s mom.. wierd how she only had a father. what is the deal with Disney, man? Matt, don’t forget to take Lyla to that one. tee hee

And if Winnie The Pooh had a Mom she would probably be dead too! Thank god he’s just a stuffed with fluff toy that only comes to life in the mind of Christopher Robin. The only Disney movie I can think of right now where the Mom isn’t/doesn’t dead/die is Dumbo.

Now I want to compare all the Disney carntoons and see how many of the main characters have dead or absent mothers compared to how may have a live and present mother. Not including the sequels. I think we may be on to something very Freaudian.

Procrastinating. I have to clean up before I go to bed. This is more interesting than cleaning up but I won’t be able to sleep if my place is a mess.

No input on High School Musical. I never saw it. That lead guy reminds me of a prepubescent Ken doll.

Nothing wrong with over-organized Virgo’s. We have all our Disney movies ordered from newest to oldest so it’s easy to flip through and analyze…btw has anybody mentioned the whole Bambi thing? I mean…that’s one where Mom dies in the movie…there’s got to be something behind all this….

Bambi! Not only does his Mom die but his dad doesn’t want anything to do with him and pawns him off on some other doe. Like, “here’s your new Mom… sorry for your luck kid”.

I just realized that I used the non-word carntoon in a previous post. Should be CARTOON. Obviously I am getting a little too worked up over this Disney thing.

BTW on the silverware I see: a four legged animal, a faucet, the top of a woman’s V neck t-shirt, an anchor, a circle with a line through it, a rocking horse with no head or tail, the letter S with a hat on it, a broken pair of sunglasses, two people sleeping in hammocks that are stacked on above the other.

Analyze that. Time for bed now I think.

Sarah-Renee, I think Disney feels the only way kids survive is on their own… it’s a shitty message, but for whatever reason, we all get lost in the magic.. i think there must be a spell in all the movies and we get totally hypnotized.

Palazzo, wiiiiierd…….. because one of my personalities wishes I could just snap my fingers, since deep down it really grosses me out, the mess and the other personality says ‘go play’… it’s really annoying sometimes.

OK. I guess I’ll chime in here with some Disneyland dish. Bambi was the only movie that left me emotionally traumatized as a kid after his mom died. :(

You know, I girl I once liked had mentioned Tom Robbins and so I looked into “Skinny Legs and All”, and I thought there were some memorable quotes. However, I do have to agree with you that he probably has had a few odd conversations, most likely with various inanimate objects. =)

Comment #20 made me laugh. Yes, I’ve seen that damn movie, too. Story about inner beauty, my ass… the (admittedly cartoon) chick’s got a waist you could wrap your hands around. (If you were also a cartoon.) Moral of the story is that even a monstrous, antisocial freak who scares little children will only fall for you if you’re hot.

I blame Disney for all my issues.

Joe vs. the Volcano? Really? I mean… really? -10 cool points.
