Will Play For Wine
August 30, 2008, Matthew Good I am currently sitting in a little bit of paradise in southern Ontario called Niagara-On-The-Lake. Tonight I perform acoustically at the Jackson Triggs winery. It’s been a fun day so far – warm and relaxing. The people here are fantastic and I am looking forward to the show – primarily because I’m going to just drink a lot of Pinot Noir and wing it. I had a hard time deciding what to play, so the set list ended up being 20 or 21 songs long.
By way of another Facebook advert, more single ladies waiting at home, glued to their computers, waiting for lonely men to find them. In this particular case it seems to be four close friends, all of whom are having difficulties finding dates. From what I can tell, all four are employed in the promotions field.
This little symbol lets you @ another comment

sounds great. Have fun tonight.
Thanks for the great set last night in Buffalo, and signing my rugby ball.
I call dibs on girl #3, seeing as how she may not even be wearing jeans, and she is clearly single!!!
Enjoy yourself! Enjoy the people! Enjoy the wine! And enjoy your show tonight! Have fun!
My inlaws make wine. It’s good stuff, already made the batch for my wedding in fall of ‘09. Bergamais is my favourite kind of wine so far.
I just got back from an amazing week on Georgian Bay… Imagine a mile of white sand beach occasionally marbled with iron rich black sand, warm summer breezes, dark star-filled nights lite only by candle or fire, scrumptious food, ice cold beer and an ever changing group of amazing women friends laughing, playing word games and telling stories… Ontario is really a beautiful place…. I hope your stay at Niagara is wonderful and tonight’s show is your best yet!
The poor girls aren’t just single, they evidently can’t find T-shirts to fit them. Funny, I never get these ads on FB; I get all the diet, “lose your belly flab”, botox ads…. Hmmmm, target marketing?
Hahaha Susan! Me too, I was beginning to develop a complex.
Enjoy the the JT wine, and may I reccommend not only the pinto but the Cab Franc /Cab Sauve blend!! I served the lighting guy Pete Siller breakie this mornin,,,hee hee I knew you boys looked familiar! Enjoy the weather and the venue but most of all the wine!!
Ah to be playing at a winery….such bliss!
As for the Facebook girls, it would be a better advert if their shirts were wet.
just sayin’.
Niagara-On-The-Lake is soooo gorgeous.
Man I wish I was there… that sounds like an blissful venue. Enjoy…. you deserve it!
I wish i was there. It is absolutley beautiful there and such perfect weather to today.
I tried to get tickets for this and they sold out so quick….
Have a glass of wine for me!
I didn’t kow prosititues had the internet. I was always under the assumption that they made some money, spent it on drugs, and very little rent. Util they die a horrible death because they realized that they were getting nowhere in the matter.
Of course, if my assumption that they would be prositiutes is correct, then why the hell are they being allowed to advertise on Facebook, and does it really matter. They want men as lonely and without substance as they are.
BTW, anybody know where the best place to order a mail order bride from a country we US citizens see as inferior is?
What a gorgeous way to end a tour. That place looks really fine. Enjoy!
Facebook is amazing for the wording in their ads, “Still single in the summer?”. To them I say stfu.
Gotta love the wine. JTs isn’t bad either.
As for Facebook, it’s the same as those tv adverts with “sexy single women” who are waiting at home for your call. Why? Because apparently dating in real life is too complicated and the phone is the easiest way to connect.

Good thing it hasn’t reached the music industry…..no….moviess, no……wat the hell these days doesn’t have a “hot” female trying to get customers. I mena even some thign you’d think would never do that, do exactly that.
By the way, I am really hot, does anybody want to pay one hundred dollars per text to have worthless conversations with me or somebody pretending to be as great as me?*
*with an additional dollar added for each character used in the message, including spaces.
Too bad tonight’s show is sold out! Would have loved to have gone! Consoled myself by buying a few bottles of wine. :p Great show in Buffalo, though! :)
You have a beautiful night to play outside. Hopefully, you will play there again since it sold out quick. I would have loved to have been there.
Last night made up for it. Awesome show!! Thanks for making Buffalo a regular stop.
Jealous jealous jealous… wish I was there and/or drinking wine myself.
FOUR SINGLE LADIES?!?! Maybe you could paint them, in your newest entrepreneurial adventure. I’m sure they’d only be too happy to oblige. I mean, after all they are lonely and there are four of them. And if all of them won’t, odds are good at least one will be easy and cave in. I mean, seriously… look at the midriffs. COME ON, they are begging to be portrayed all stick figure style.

Hey now, technically you did go. I wonder if that was your wine that was drunk.
Thanks for 2 good shows.
say HI to the Frei Bros.
p.s. Don’t need to pray for D’s, but would kill for those abs right about now, after Woody’s and PIzza night… burp.
Matt, you ROCKED THE VINEYARD! Thanks for the fantastic show, and the autograph! :) See you tomorrow night in Bala.
I was seriously tempted to call in sick tonite and tromp through a neighbouring vineyard to see if i could catch a glimpse but from my research it wouldve been rather difficult, especially with the amount of growth on the vines this time of year. I wouldve purchased tickets had they not sold out so fast… hopefully you enjoyed it so much that you’ll play another show there in the future. I must admit after working in wineries for about 3 years I never took to Pinot Noir…. but throw a cabernet my way and i’m good to go.
Man… 20-21 songs????? cant believe i missed that!!! argggggg

Susan is right, we did go! And it was awesome. Just hearing Advertising on Police Cars and a few other songs was worth it. The wine definitely saved the day too :D Oh oh and Lance was fantastic to chat with, I am looking forward to uploading those pictures! Hahaha!!!!
I.Tried.Like.Hell.To.Get.Tickets!
:( I’m so upset that I couldn’t be there. My family and I frequent Niagara-on-the-lake to stock up on wine and take in the beautiful scenery. Then follow it up with a walk down to the falls and shopping in the tacky tourism shops that charge you $5.00 for a Bic pen that says, ‘NIAGARA FALLS’ on it. Haha, but I love it. Niagara is my favourit place in the WORLD and to know for the passed few months you were going to be at my favourite winery and I wouldn’t be able to go has saddened me. :(
I’m sure it was a fabulous evening and that you sounded nothing short of amazing. :) Please come back again to the area of Niagara/Kitchener-Waterloo! You’re fan base here (in Waterloo) is HUGE.
Ah well! I’m sure you’ll be the talk of the town when I visit Niagara-on-the-Lake this coming Monday. I’ll be swinging by Jackson Triggs for sure. :)
Take care!
See now my Facebook advertising corner keeps directing me to a site where I can find a Jewish husband. Oh! And let’s not forget about Oprah’s newest diet with Acai berries.
God how I wish I could have been there….Matt PPPPLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEE pack your guitar and COME TO EUROPE!!!!! :0)
Forget the plastic girl dolls. They are so shallow.
xx
And I hope you download the gift I sent you last night. Dave grohl, jimmy Page and John Paul Jones at Wembley, Ramble On. Second best gig I have EVER been to…doesn’t come anywhere close to you though. And you’d better still be rockin’ at that age ;0)
Hmmmm, target marketing?
Definately. I always get adverts going “We do need more germans!!!”
Or “[insert your favorite writer mentioned in the personal section of your profile] books here!!”. So it should be close to certainty that these single ladies will mainly appear to male facebook’ers ;o)
I can’t think of a better venue. The show was fantastic! Everything seemed ‘off’-the-cuff’ and we loved it! I was elated to hear Fated and Hopeless - both have been favorites of mine.
Thank you so much for the autograph session following the show. Knowing you have to make the trip to Bala, it was really nice of you to share a meet-and-greet with your fans.
I really hope you consider coming back to Jackson Triggs…was a delightful show to say the least.
Cheers!
I love Niagara-On-The-Lake. I went there last summer for a mini-vacation with my mom and my sister. :)
Hope you had a good show!
Everyone, Matt’s got a new fan page on Facebook that should be checked out, if you haven’t already. I’ve posted video clips of Suburbia (YAY!!!) and Apparitions, plus a few pics from last night. Sorry about the picture quality, my camera sucks.
Seriously awesome show.
I love Niagara-on-the-Lake. Beautiful little town. It’s about 15-20 minutes away from where I live. Nice shops and restaurants. Shaw Festival. Beautiful gardens. The old fort. Wineries. I think it’s much more worth it to spend a day in NOTL than in the tourist trap that is Niagara Falls.
If you’re still there, try out the Whirlpool Jet Boat. That’s fun! :D

Hehehe! Maybe Lance should start his own meet & greet lineup after shows. ;-)
Now you need to play a pork processing joint in Itlee
Great show as always matt. Looking forward to the LIVE album. To anyone that was at the Buffalo show, what was the name of the opening band?? They i thought were awsome.
That was my first Matt Good concert and is was awesome! I can’t imagine how good they are when it isn’t off the cuff!
Thank you Matt for meeting your fans afterwards and letting us get a picture! What a memorable experience for your fans!
I hope you come back next year to the winery!

Red Mother.
Fantastic show last night!! And great wine :o)
I hope that you would consider playing there again… It was nice to feel like you were just playing in our backyard.
Cheers.
All the vineyards out there are worth visiting

Ya, I can see the ladies being presented to the male FBers, and the German connection to you, but how do they know I’m fat???? I’m getting a complex…they seem to hit all my weak spots….
Matt,
My poppa makes a vast amount of amazing wine so there’s always ample supply at my house. Any time you wanna come over and play I’ll feed you all the wine you want!
We had a wonderful time seeing Matt in Buffalo and also at the winery. All the Canadian people were so nice. At the club we met a mother and son who are big fans of Matt’s music. It was his 34Th time seeing Matt play. She ended up getting the one last ticket left for the winery show the next day and I was so surprised to find her sitting behind me. We exchanged e-mails. The food was outstanding and the winery was absolutely beautiful as well as Niagara On the Lake. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect evening. Matt was funny as hell as usual. I had too many glasses of wine and then had Matt sign my pill bottle. That was probably one of the weirdest request, but hey, we both take those “red and blue” pills and I’m crazy too. However, my girlfriend tells me I’m the most sanest person she knows. I was reading the Toronto Sun before Matt started to play, and in the business section the one article title was “Devil In The Details.” They must of knew Matt was coming to town. It was nothing pertaining to Matt, but I had to chuckle when I saw it. Matt, If you see this, thank you for two fantastic shows. I’m just truly amazed how beautiful you voice is. It was nice to speak to you twice and looking forward to that favor I asked, if It’s not too much to ask of you.
I think you should take another photo of your gym bag you took at the start of your tour with the caption, “Tour ends here.” That’s a bummer, but everything must come to an end for now. Stay healthy Mr Trucker slang. LOL!!!!
Shit, I make beer outta my basement - you are more than welcome to play here!

And what, Torgerson is a Jewish last name? Or do they think that Scandinavian girls want Jewish husbands? I have yet to figure out why I’m targeted with the ‘find a Jewish Husband here’ ad (not that I mind, it’s just rather odd). Maybe they know about my recent divorce and they figure Jewish men are more reliable than Scottish ones? Do they really dig that deep?
Niagara-on-the-lake AND good weather? damn you all!
Am veeeeery jealous.
The band that opened for Matt in Buffalo is Mother Red.
Thanks for the awesome show Friday night, It was amazing…..as usual.
Loved getting to speak with you again……..thanks for being so nice! Finally a great photo was taken of us!
As always……..
Love from Buffalo, Michelle

Oh, man, Sarah-Renee! The husband I just got rid of (okay, he left me, but still) is Scottish, born and bred Glaswegian! I would have to say, given my experience (a very small sample size) that just about anyone is more reliable than a Scotts guy! Now I will stand back and await the onslaught of Scotts guys protesting my bitter generalization…..

Hmm, my Indian BFF says that Persian men are most unreliable of all. They do kiss rather nicely…
Susan- Yeah…mine left me too. Maybe it’s the whole red-head with a scottish guy thing? We both have that in common as well I believe…that is if that’s you in your picture thingy. Maybe we should consider finding a Jewish Husband…I’ll get you the website next time it pops up on my Facebook.
Sajia Kabir- You know I have a Ukrainian friend who has said something very similar to that about Persian men. She also said it about Albanian men as well.

I think you’re on to something…red headed Canadian women with Scotts guys….baaaad combo….I”m sure we could get a SSHRC grant to study this…..
As for the Persian, Albanian, etc….I’ll let you know. I am currently conducting my own research into the relative amorous strengths of men in different ethic groups….
Susan- Well I can claim naturalized Canadian citizenship, but I was born in the states. So there’s a dent in our theory. Hey good idea with the research! I will have to conduct my own. I’ll keep you updated on my results down here and you can let me know how it’s all going up there. Not that there is much diversity here in the middle of nowhere Oregon…but I’ll see what I can do.
okay, now FB just asked me–nay, DARED me–via target marketing ad, to beat Paris’s IQ score of 90! What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, nothing beats being on a message board with adsense. If there is anything on a thread that could somehow be linked to sex through some damn horny googlebots, then you have got yourself some ads to be staring at.
Ah good old Niagara-on-the-Lake. I wish I could have gone to that concert. I’m sure it was amazing. I live 5 minutes away in St. Catharines. I love going for drives through NOTL on nice days. It’s so beautiful! Hope you had a great show!

Hey now there’s nothing wrong with being a fat, lonely cat lady. I’ve decided to embrace the stereotype. I actually prefer being called ‘crazy cat lady’ thank you.
I was at your NOTL concert last Saturday night and let me say that your performance was a diamond in the ruff. The setting , the dinner and, of course, the wine were all a terrific preamble to what was a lovely and quite civilized evening of music and a lot of laughter. It seems that you have another calling; that of comedian. Thanks for a great night.
what an absolutely perfect venue for this show. jackson triggs was not only stunning, the people there friendly and extremely hospitable. after seeing you in buffalo with a full band for the first time , i didnt think it could get much better. i was completely wrong.
thanks for the amazing show, made my trip home perfect.
hope youre enjoying home now as well.
