Free

Finally, A Hair Cut

I am free. Free of the disastrous mess that was my hair. Being that I am lazy when it comes to things such as haircuts, I tend to let my hair grow out and, in the process, complain that I should get off my ass and get a haircut. The last time that I got one was in Chicago in the spring. In truth, my laziness dictates that I wait until I am somewhere playing a show before doing anything about it so that I can get it cut by someone in my hotel room. That way I don’t have to organize it or anything – I just show up, which, in this case, meant that I woke up ten minutes beforehand and simply answered the door.

Decadent, I know. But I offset my feelings of guilt by trying to remind myself that I no longer have the hairline of a 25 year old and that I have been reduced to sporting the ‘Roman Emperor’ look for the rest of my life. That and it didn’t cost $3,973 a second.

I’m only 32 and I can see mine starting to leave the forhead and move back.

Such is life. If I go bald, I’ll just keep a neatly cropped do, no comb-overs for me.

Did you go to Chinatown for your haircut? I’ve seen $4, $5, and $6, though I have never tried those yet. I will this fall, after I enjoy a few autumn walks with the wind blowing through my hair.

Not lazy at all. :) I cut my hubby’s hair with just a set of clippers and it takes me months to get around to it so he looks shorn like you do.
Hmmm… similar hairlines too. So you both have that increasing forehead issue. :D

Anyway, the deal is I cut his hair and he has to clean it up.

    Looking good.

Why do guy’s haircuts always cost less than girl’s? I spend [the equivalent of] $100CAN every eight weeks or so with my hair stylist, for an hour and a half of wash/cut/blow job/EXCELLENT music* gossip…
*Mind you, I have him to thank for introducing me to MG so…he’s worth a hundred times that, over and over… :0)

… Maybe you’re paying so much because of that “blow job” you listed in there?

I kid. We ladies don’t need to pay that much, it’s just a matter of priorities. I often get my hair cut for 15 bucks, when I’m not really caring too much about it.

“Blow Job” of the hot air kind actually :0)
Problem is, with so much of it (hair, that is) and thick with it, it takes an unbelievable amount of time to cut dry…even though it is short. Hair stylists always seem to like my hair (”ooohhhh…. thick, glossy, close follicles, blah, blah, blah). Thing is, they don’t have to try to tame/dry it. Or PAY for it… :0)
[Fudge = Australian product is the best. Does what it says on the tin. Don't know if you guys in C can get it?? V. Expensive, but worth it...]
Digress. Nice pic. Bet it takes seconds to dry ;0)

  13. Michael Eh Says:

I know the feeling of a changing hairline Matt. 20 years ago in my youth and vanity it would have really bothered me. These days my attitude is ‘what you see is what you get’. My little is headed in the same direction and I think he’s in denial!

  14. Angela Says:

Let it grow….get it cut…..shave it off, it doesn’t really matter cause you still look good :)

  15. yakerav Says:

now that i think of it,i have a complaint about that haircut.
    hides your curls;)

the stupid blow job costs almost 10 bucks.. i say screw it I go outa there dripping wet

    HAHAHAHA

  18. donkeygrey Says:

I think most men would find $10 for a blow job quite reasonable, moreso if a hair cut was actually included in the price.

If I go bald I’m shaving it all off! BTW, I am starting to go bald and I’m turning 27 in December!

  20. haggis Says:

I blame gravity for all my receding(make that descending)lines. Guess that doesn’t work for hairlines.

  21. Susie McEwan Says:

Guys look sexy no matter what—bald, shaved head, grey, long hair, whatever. Women, not so much. A lot of our sexuality is tied up in our hair, and it is one of the first things guys say that attracts them. Imagine lovely Olga/Nelly with a cropped grey ‘do.

Me, I just think men are lovely to look at no matter what. And Matt, the haircut looks good on you. That photo though, it’s the kind where the eyes follow me no matter where I am….both intriguing and freaky!!

And besides, when you are wearing your straw hat, who cares what your hair(line) looks like?

  22. Becca Steps Says:

I don’t care what a mans hair looks like as long as he’s sporting the “scruff”…mmm mmm GOOD!!

  23. yakerav Says:
I blame gravity for all my receding(make that descending)lines. Guess that doesn’t work for hairlines.
it does.hair loss is often stress and not enough blood circulation in the head.
spend some time every day head down pulling your hair to get the blood back in there and you might just keep em.

  24. Duane Storey Says:

Hmm, that’s actually not really correct, although it might give old wives something to talk about :)

Hair loss is men is mostly caused by a form of testosterone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT contributes to both hair loss and inflammation of the prostate. In fact, a drug developed to treat prostate cancer (Proscar) had the unintended side-effect of causing men to regrow lost hair. Since then, a form of it (Propecia) has been approved for hair loss by the FDA.

  25. Algae Says:

I think most girls would agree that a mans hairline is pretty low on the priority list. A nice smile, intelligent conversation and direct eye contact (ie. not staring and talking to our rack - and you would be surprised how many guys of all ages blatantly do that) have much more impact than hair.

Yes, scruff is… exciting! Until you see food or a booger stuck in it.

  26. margo_0 Says:

still lookin’ good, handsome as always ;P

  27. Orangepekoe Says:

You’re paying for the experience of the stylist. And often, you’re getting that extra treatment. Same with guys. We have a lot of male clientele who come in regularly and are paying $45-50 for their cuts. The majority of them enjoy that little extra. Plus stylists gotta get paid somehow, often commission of their services.
    Nice cut, by the way.

Head movements? Not so much. A scalp massage is handy, on the other hand.

Let’s hope it grows where you want it to (like a mustache would be nice, I can’t grow in this 1cm area under my nose, the rest of the mustache is fine).

  36. Tuuli22 Says:

Less hair = more wisdom ;) That’s an intelligent look.

  37. Brian Smart Says:

My kid brother has the exact same hairline as that - he calls the those spots on either side of the little island of hair left in the middle his “boat slips”.
