I’m Going To Sleep In - No Matter What

I’m going to do my damndest to sleep in tomorrow morning, so I thought I would post a few articles of interest for those of you in other time zones that will be up well ahead of me.

First, an article by the Boston Globe’s Joan Vennochi which includes an opening that could have been penned by Bruce Springsteen…

“When you are too big to fail, you are bailed out.

When you are too small to save, you are down and out on the street.”

The second article, entitled Why does the US think it can win in Afghanistan?, is by The Independent’s Robert Fisk. Fisk is easily one of the most educated journalists in the world when it comes to Middle Eastern affairs, having been The Independent’s foreign correspondent in that region (based in Lebanon) for more than 30 years. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend his masterpiece - The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East.

Nighty-night.

    Wow. Potent words indeed.

Given that you haven’t gone to bed yet and I have been up this Monday already for an hour, enjoy your lie-in tomorrow morning. You need a holiday. ;0)

I have to be up at 5am for work. It feels like waking up in the middle of the night to start your day. I dread ‘mornings’. But I’d have to be in bed by like 9 to get 8 hours of proper sleep but I can never fall asleep that early unless I utterly exhaust myself somehow & pass out. I’m a night person living a morning person’s life. Though I guess at times I end up catching an amazing sunrise that makes it worth it…almost

I found that for some reason, a half glass of wine does it for me. I sleep twice as good.

I mean, I guess we’re all different, but that’s something that really does help me and not so much in a getting toasted sort of way, either. It just seems to mellow everything out.

If you feel that much of respect for Robert Fisk, I’d bet that you have one or another copy of Norman Finkelstein’s work in you book shelves? Could well be you on the picture… ;)

I worked two twelve hour shifts this weekend. Went to bed at 10:00 and woke up at 9:30 this morning. That’s 11 1/2 hours of sleep and I’m still not awake. Foggy brain…. My usual speed reading abilities are in slow motion. I got through the first article from the Globe, which hit the nail on the head. Sorry teach, I’ll have to read the other assignment after the fog clears.. I hate mornings like this……

The weather is beginning to turn in the Yukon, and I managed to squeeze in the last camping trip of the year with one of my daughters this weekend at Dezadeash Lake, over toward the Alaskan border. Each morning when we a, the mountains behind us had a little more snow on them and it was making it’s annual creep down the alpine slopes until, one morning you wake up and it’s underfoot. When we arrived home, this article was in our local paper. I thought it was relevant given the above - the thought of being homeless and spending a winter up here “outdoors” is horrifying. The money that the Territory spent to ensure the Olympic flame comes here could have gone a long way to help this situation - as could the 1.3 billion spent on the new Yankee Stadium in New York help the homeless situation there. The examples are endless - unfortunately.

I ain’t got nothing on my plate
Please let me sleep in late
No catfish bitin’ at my bait
Please let me sleep in late
Feel like I’m standin at St Peter’s gate
Please let me sleep in late
Don’t know the time I dont know the date
Please let me sleep in late
Gonna lay right down here in my cozy bed
Well I might be dreamin’ you know I might be dead
Don’t have to work by gaining weight
Please let me sleep in late
I ain’t got time for love and hate
Please let me sleep in late
For when the sun begins to rise
I don’t wanna see it through my tired eyes
Don’t have to work by gaining weight
Please let me sleep in late
I ain’t got nothing on my plate
Please let me sleep in late
Don’t know the time I dont know the date
Please let me sleep in late
