At least we get to hear it…I was there…it was awesome…you will swear that these songs are much better live than on record. Too bad there’s no DVD release of the show…?

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy….and a Hallelujah
September 25th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
I can’t believe the only tour I’ve missed in almost a decade will have a show from it released as a live album. One lucky bastard over here. Can’t wait to hear it in all it’s untouched glory.
September 25th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Are any of those 10,000 CDs going to be released in New Zealand by any chance? Or just Canada?

I have no idea where people get stuff like that. No EP was ever planned to be released with it. What, 20 live songs on two discs isn’t enough?
September 25th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
the 20 songs are more than enough, i was just wondering if the ep was a fabrication or not

Very cool. A couple of questions, if I may:
1) About the limited edition double CD… Are the retail version and the vinyl version the same version? (Same track list, obviously, but I mean other than that. Different liner notes, packaging, subliminal messages, etc?)
2) Any idea of prices for the physical versions? (Not that price is necessarily an issue when it comes to your releases, you understand…)
Thanks. I’m really looking forward to this.
September 25th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
I am sooo very excited
I will definitely be purchasing all of the above
thank you Matt!!!
whoooot
September 25th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
OMG…just hope I can also get my hands on a CD too (I am a greedy cow)
I just may have to make lots more (best) friends in Canada soon :0)
September 25th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
I have just read the cost of this on iTunes. Crazy…it’s…like…giving it away!!!!??? Even $ for £ here in the UK it seems hugely underpriced, IMHO.
September 25th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
*marks release dates on calendar* WOOHOO! Now I have something to look forward to get me through grad school apps. :D
Hmm, I wonder if my parents still have their turntable at home … I really want to buy the vinyl release along with the CD, but would feel bad about getting something that’s a limited release if I have nothing to play it on … oh the dilemma!
Also, I take it iTunes Canada only sells to Canadians? Guess I’ll have to content myself with another month of watching live vids of the tour on YouTube. ;)
September 25th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
thank god i have a turn table
September 25th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Until I can get my hands on a copy, I will contently read my new book…at last there is nothing left to say.
September 25th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Word.
However anything limited edition makes me nervous.
September 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

Huh? Vinyl? When did that make a comeback?
Gosh, I still have old Beatles, Carol King, Guess Who, Chicago, Bob Dylan and Three Dog Night albums sitting around somewhere - and my first album ever by the Four Seasons. Kept them for nostalgic reasons really as they are so scratched up.
My brother still trips over putting the needle on the record, listening to the A and B side and looking at the doodles he used to draw on his album covers. But how does today’s vinyl sound any better if it is recorded digitally? Who buys vinyl now - young or old?

vinyl is making a huge comeback, especially now that you can get record players that have i-pod ports so you can load songs directly on to your ipod…
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=194981&om_keycode=92
i still buy a ton of cd’s, but i do try to snag classic albums on vinyl when i can (ok computer, stone roses, loveless, nevermind, etc.) and add it to the stack of vinyl my parents have (beatles, bob dylan, etc.)
needless to say the prospect of more matt good vinyl is very exciting.
*sorry for driving the comments slightly off topic*

Wicked!
September 25th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Sorry…at the risk of sounding stupid:
Is this solo acoustic, or full band?
From the song list it looks like full band, except last 2 songs.
Man…this is killer news either way.
September 25th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
I believe it’s from the last Massey Hall date, so that would make it full band.

He used Wikipedia as a source. It’s never a certain source for reliable information on, well, anything. Particularly news of any kind. You might be able to get away with it in high school, but probably not at university and hopefully never in a professional setting.
It’s one thing to look at the sources/citation section of an article for a primary source, but never ever rely on Wiki itself as a primary source. It’s just too open for revision by people trying to be funny or just plain being dicks.

Shit, limited CD and vinyl release?
Now I get to get all anxious and freaked out as October approaches. Just when I thought I might calm down, I have to decide on format (probably both…) and make sure I get my pre-order in.
But I’ll be so happy to get it.

Fuck me! $200 would be a nice little profit here in the new depression, too bad I’ll never sell. Mine’s sealed too by the way, I bought it from Matt’s site at the time when it first came out, and as much as I’d like to get it signed I reckon I’ll keep the plastic on.
$200 does seem a bit unrealistic though, one of the 500 blue background copies of Loser Anthems went for only $102.50 on Ebay today.
Come to think of it, I have absolutely no idea how many of the Avalanche vinyls were actually released, mine’s not numbered or anything I don’t think.

Oo! Oo! I do! And I’m a young collector to boot which totally confuses the shit out of the folks at work, especially when I tell them I absolutely will not own a turntable with the ability to convert old records to MP3 files. (I’m sorry, but condensing the full and richly warm tones of Bridge Over Troubled Waters into a small, clipping digital file is outright blasphemous and I’d lose my soul and become the ultimate sell out if I bought into that. :p)
I vaguely remember seeing vinyl in the shops because the world finally came to the conclusion that they weren’t relevant anymore when I was about 6, and therefore took them off the shelves. But because my parents (very hesitantly) let me listen to their old records when we had a working turntable in the house, I’ve always had an extreme soft spot for the medium growing up. Of course what’s awesome now is that I’m now 23 and with the whole “comeback” is in full swing, the latest working turntable in the house is exclusively mine, I’m in heaven. Not only do I have such amazing artists such as our Matt taking the step to release vinyl copies of their latest albums, but used vinyl is some of the cheapest music available. I buy awesome records at my CD store from anywhere between $3 and maybe $7 - and all of it is always worth every penny, to me anyway. Two years ago, when I visited Vancouver and Victoria, $45 bought me used copies of Who’s Next, Who Are You, Live at Leeds (original as nature first intended 5 song copy), a re-release copy of Sell Out and one mint condition used copy of Pink Floyd’s the Wall that alone cost me a grand total of $20. Better still, I’ve also got fantastic newer artists like Sloan who make it a point to release a vinyl edition of their latest releases - and even with the idea that the songs were recording into a computer and thus began life as a file, it still sounds fantastic on vinyl. (Not to mention, with Sloan’s style and sound, half their tracks sound like they belonged on my record player all along…I adore Sloan. :D)
And now, in a few short weeks, I will have a wonderful brand new release by our friend, Matt, to add to my growing collection. :)
Question now regarding the vinyl release: you say it’s going to be a double album - how are the songs going to be divided for it? Will it be 5 songs a side (20 tracks divide by four sides) or did you have something else in mind?

i believe 1000 copies, after checking my ebay history, both a sealed copy and used copy went for around $240, the sealed one had a buy now of $100 but bidding wars started.

As someone who adores rock photography, I have two words in response to the choice of album art: HOLY FUCK!
I want his job. I want to take amazing shot after another of everything rock and get paid to do so. But alas, pursuing it would be extremely expensive, and I just don’t have the money to even begin to get the proper equipment or to obtain the appropriate education to do so. I guess I’m going to have to do my best with my huge digital camera for the time being. :(
PS: I have to say it…Matt: that guy made you look really hot.
September 26th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
OK, I’m still slightly confused.
The Nov. 4 retail thing…is that in the MM store? “Physical” release would imply to me that it’s actually IN the store…in that case - FS & BB? Elsewhere? HELP.
Fuuuuuck. I shouldn’t try and figure stuff out before I’ve finished my pot of coffee. I’m usually somewhat smarter than this but today two plus two equals eight.
September 26th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
You’ve got to get your back catalogue pressed on vinyl, Matt.
September 26th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
I buy vinyls.
I started buying them a few years ago after I figured out how to fix my parent’s turntable and had access to several hundred records, which is when I discovered how painful it was to listen to Bob Dylan on my iPod and $10 earbuds.
Since then I’ve collected a bunch of vinyls from my favourite artists that offer them…Radiohead, Sam Roberts, Weakerthans, REM, to name a few. I bought the In Rainbows discbox which killed my wallet but it was worth it. 15 Step is a different song entirely when it comes off the needle.
But because vinyl are much more expensive it really comes down to a priority kind of thing where you only buy your favourite or what end up becoming your favourite records on vinyl.
I’d go for a back catalogue of Matt Good on vinyl. I’d also go for a back catalogue of several other artists who have completely butchered their sound on recent albums and make their music almost unlistenable (coughTragicallyHipcough) , that is, if they didn’t put that mix on the vinyl as well.
I’m all for the vinyl. Can’t wait for the release of the live show.

Yeah, it’s full band, and then he does the last two acoustic. The first set ends after “Apparitions”…then the band comes back out and plays from “Giant” to “Everything is Automatic.”
It’s a shame Matt couldn’t leave in the crowd singing the chorus to “Everything is Automatic”…it was euphoric, I’m tellin’ ya. (Long story short: Matt said the sing along chorus was coming out all fuzzy, so the only thing altered is when he sings the chorus at some other show that’s not Massey.)

Arrgh! Figures. The song I want most will not be available on the early release by ONE song (99%). I’ve been listening to it on many a repeat since my grandfather’s cancer diagnosis. Oh well! Must. Be. Patient. So grateful to have a show I attended be the first live release.

p.s. Emily, shoot whatever you can on whatever you got. That’s where we all started, it goes from there. How long has Phil been doing this I wonder. I will go dig deeper to find the pic, can’t wait to see it.
Are any of those 10,000 CDs going to be released in New Zealand by any chance? Or just Canada?
Beautiful Midnight (the US version) is the only Matthew Good (Band) album I’ve ever seen at a retail store in New Zealand. And since the physical CD will be a limited release, I’d say there’s no chance that any of those CDs are going to make their way over here. I’d suggest ordering it on the MapleMusic website on the pre-release date - it’s always been great for me with getting Matt’s stuff.
Living in NZ, and never even coming remotely close to having the chance to hear Matt live, aside from the occasional bootleg, I can’t wait to hear this CD. The tracklist sounds amazing. Thank you Matt.
(Long story short: Matt said the sing along chorus was coming out all fuzzy, so the only thing altered is when he sings the chorus at some other show that’s not Massey.)
I think it was Peterborough.

Sorry…at the risk of sounding stupid:
Is this solo acoustic, or full band?
From the song list it looks like full band, except last 2 songs.
Man…this is killer news either way.
The “Everything is Automatic” chorus is taken from the Peterborough show. Which I couldn’t be happier about as I missed tickets for Massey so drove to Peterborough, so it will be like there’s a little piece of me on that album too!

Cool, thanks for the info…
I was hoping it was full band…from the states and never got to Buffalo. Did see the “one man acoustical jam” at House of Blues here in C-town - that was an awesome show.

Oh, so there are fans in NZ! I’ll still be in Canada for the pre sale, in NZ without a known address in November. I guess I’ll just have to have it shipped to Canada and then sent.

It’s under “Shows,” and then page 3. :)
Out of all Matt’s releases so far, I personally would love to see White Light Rock & Roll Review on vinyl. There’s way too much of an awesome semi-vintage rock sound going on with that record to be wasted on the just the compact disc format.

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the REST of us have to wait nearly another FULL month before we can hear it. Thanks. :0(
At least we get to hear it…I was there…it was awesome…you will swear that these songs are much better live than on record. Too bad there’s no DVD release of the show…?
Yes great question. Any chance of a DVD in the future of one of your tours?

November 4th is also the date of the U.S. Presidential election.
So Matt’s secret plan is to release the CD on this date so all those tens of millions of red-state conservative Republican hillbilly Matthew Good fans will sit at home at listen to their new Matt Good album instead of going out & casting a ballot for McCain. Brilliant plan man!! [/sarcasm]

Great to hear that all tracks will be available on UK iTunes on the same day. :0)

You are very welcome. x3 Everyone must know proper details for this release, eh?
Late reply, lulz.
I have no idea where people get stuff like that. No EP was ever planned to be released with it. What, 20 live songs on two discs isn’t enough?
The wonders of our consumerist society.
Really looking forward to the album. I’d love to snag a vinyl if I could get my old record player hooked back up.
