Bad News Vinyl Fans
October 20, 2008, Matthew Good It is my unfortunate duty to have to report that ‘Live At Massey Hall’ will not be available on vinyl. From what I have been told the release would fill four full records worth of space. We debated releasing four different versions or two double albums, but at the end of the day the cost to do so would result in them retailing for far too much money.
Having discussed that matter we have decided to make it up to fans by ensuring that the next new release is available on both CD and vinyl. Apologies to those that were looking forward to it.

on the bright side, atleast i can take solace in the fact i wont be forced to listen to my roommate’s milk crate full of Stevie Miller and Boston, not to mention other atrocities!

I’m with Beth, I already ordered the CD and I was debating whether or not to get a vinyl copy… even though I don’t have a working record player.
Now I can spend my money on something else, like food. Hurray!

For Vancouver on vinyl, it should open up and there should totally be a whale for a centrefold…you can do a whale songs hidden track! Wait, did hidden tracks only get invented with CDs? Anyway…
OHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I was really looking forward to this as well. I will however look forward to buying Vancouver on Vinyl . . . any chance of releasing some previously released album on vinyl?? I for one would LOVE to have Hospital Music on Vinyl . . .
Well I’m happy I have my Avalanche vinyl for sure now. Thanks Matt for signing it at the last Massey Hall show! I look forward to the release of the next album!

Mind you, there is another idea you could consider as maybe a future second swipe at releasing a vinyl Live at Massey Hall: take another hint from the Who and only release five or six songs on a single record as another limited release. As always, a thought.
so when is the cd gonna be available on the webstore again? even though i own an iphone im too old fashioned to replace cds with itunes downloads

Avalanche sounds amazing on vinyl. I completely understand not putting out a four record album though. Looking forward to Vancouver!
that sucks. Matt, have you ever thought of re-releasing older albums (other than avalanche) on vinyl??
awe damn. So… Can I still get a cd? Or are they going to be all gone. The new album better be extra matt-tastic to make up for this.
I would rather have the next record on vinyl than a live one, so even though this sucks, it’s actually AWESOME.
That’s unfortunate; other than my computer’s DVD drive the only way I can listen to music is through my record player. However, I shall look forward to the next new release being available in vinyl.

I’m truly surprised how many of the commentors have record players.
It’s too bad but with the next release being both CD and vinyl it more than makes up for it. Hell, it’s not like we’re entitled to a vinyl release at all so this is awesome :)

Probably… but I have one LP that has a hidden track… sort of. Tool’s “Opiate”. When it gets to the end of the 5th song, the groove splits into two parallel grooves (not sure of the real terminology here…). Depending on random happenstance, you either get Opiate (the song), or The Gaping Lotus Experience. Nifty.
I’ll definitely buy Matt’s next album on vinyl. I have three copies of Avalanche (A store I worked at was having a vinyl clearance sale).

Nooo! Brand new turn table, I only listen to albums these days, this was going to be beyond cool. Vinyl is just so… huge. Damn. Next time.
@Dan, any interest in selling one of those copies of the Avalanche vinyl. I’ve been searching for well over a year now for a copy of it.
