Live At Massey Hall Release Update
As most of you are aware, Live At Massey Hall is now available for purchase on iTunes. Since being released at midnight the record is already #2 on the iTunes Canada store and #48 (which is a feat given that it has had no promoting in the United States whatsoever).
Regarding pre-sales, the records allotted for pre-sale sold out in two hours. We are currently working on getting more, so please check the online store for updates.

#2 on itunes Canada store and #89 on the US store? Hurray!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Congratulations, Matt. Well deserved.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Well done, Matt!!!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:47 am
The records meaning “vinyl” sold out? I never saw them go up for sale and I’ve been watching now for approx 15hrs. Can you confirm if the vinyl is sold out??
October 7th, 2008 at 11:49 am
the vinyl is sold out?
October 7th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Cheers to you Matt!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:50 am
That’s brilliant Matt! it is a beautiful record, for sure.
It’s just a shame that Maple has to charge $55 for international shipping :0(
October 7th, 2008 at 11:50 am
when you say “The records sold out in 2 hours” are you referring to vinyl?
Congrats on the #2, a great feat.
Yv.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:51 am
I’m trying to get some information about the vinyl release. I’m just as confused as you guys are.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:51 am
It definitely didn’t go up for sale- you’re not crazy :)
October 7th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Wow, sold out! I got in there just in time. I ordered my signed copy about an hour ago. Lucky.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:52 am
The Vinyl was never on sale………..
October 7th, 2008 at 11:53 am
it still says that the item is currently unavailable for even the cd :( i wanted my signed copy.so i can`t even pre-order the double cd yet
October 7th, 2008 at 11:53 am
:)*
October 7th, 2008 at 11:53 am
I think by ‘records’, Matt means the number of CD copies they had allotted for the pre-sales have sold out.
Congratulations Matt, it’s well deserved. I caved and purchased what’s available on iTunes, and I am just stunned at how fantastic it sounds, you and the rest of the band should be incredibly proud of yourselves.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:53 am
nice! i downloaded on iTunes a few hours ago and have listened to about 1/2 of it and it sounds great! although, on some of the older songs, i feel the absence of dave genn, especially on hello time bomb. my favorite part is when he maxed out the feedback on the boss delay and turned the time knob during the solo. that said, i’m glad you’re still playing the mgb favorites.
the new stuff really shines. champions of nothing gave me chills. great job, matt!!

October 7th, 2008 at 11:54 am
When did the pre-sale actually begin?? I sat on my computer from midnight until 1:30am to order a pre-sale copy and the online store said “the selection was not currently available” or something… and now they are sold out…
I’m sad… my birthday just got a little less happy… Plan B..hehe
October 7th, 2008 at 11:56 am
i forgot to ask, on champions of nothing, are you using a tremolo pedal during the feedback parts or a toggle switch on your guitar? it sounds really cool.
curt
October 7th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Yes, it should be made clear that not all 10,000 copies were available for pre-order. Some are obviously being held back for the November 4th release at retail.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Wow, the comments sure moved quick on this one.
And Jane, I guess its a good thing I’ll be shipping it to you! Won’t cost near as much I imagine/hope.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Excellent news Matt! Well done.
Please tell me you didn’t pay $55 for it to be couriered Jane. It’s bad enough paying £6 for mine to be sent airmail - but that normally only takes a few days so is by far the best option available.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:58 am
What amazes me is that, no doubt the vast majority of the people who buy this live album are probably like me in that they already have each of these songs in their collection already, but are quick to jump all over an opportunity to have a live version of some great songs. That’s got to put a smile on Matt’s face and rightly so. I particularly like the live version of Weapon. I’d love to get my hands on an instrumental version of that song - awesome.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Congratulations Matt. #89 on US iTunes with no promotion is a great achievement.
Looking forward to hearing what’s happening with the vinyl. :)
October 7th, 2008 at 11:59 am
this all reminds me of the iphone 3g/mobile me/itunes 7.7/and iphone/ipod touch 2.0 software release! it is running as smoothly as it possibly can and i cant image how stressful it is to have so much going on at once! hope it all gets sorted out soon:).
October 7th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Maple Music started the pre-sale at approx 10:20 A.M. this morning for the signed cd’s. There was originally supposed to be 200 signed copies which sold out quite quickly. The cd then appeared as “Not Available” on the maple music site. It then came back on sale a little while later but stated that the signed copies were gone. A few minutes later it was unavailable again and then it came back online as signed copies and stated that there were 300 copies. Still no site of the Vinyl . . . .
October 7th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
55 $ ??? You’re kidding, Jane??
October 7th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Congratulations, very well deserved!!!
October 7th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Picked up a signed and unsigned copy of the live cd :)
Do people buy te vinyl as a collection? I’ve never bought a vinyl before.
I’m using the signed cd as a collection and the unsigned cd to listen to.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
don’t worry Tuuli - it’s only $11ish for international airmail. Which is far too much, but nowhere as bad as $55 which I think is for some kind of courier service.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Reactions are overwhelming, obviously. I couldn’t even lock on to the page for quite some time only minutes ago ;) Congrats Matt.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
I bought mine @ 7:20 this morning and badlittlemonkey is right- was strange- some people missed the signed then bought the unsigned only to have the signed become available again……. bummer for some I’m sure, but at the end of the day- getting to preorder at all is a bonus so I don’t think anyone really has any reason to bitch.
Congrats on the kickass ranking Matt-
October 7th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
I wanted to get clearance from my wife before I pulled the trigger on the pre-order. While waiting, all the CDs got snatched up. While I am thrilled that more people are getting turned on to Matt’s amazing sound, I am sad to not have my copy reserved. Please release more to the public.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
congratulations Matt!
To say that I’m surprised would be an outright lie
well done
October 7th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Congrats. If I remember correctly, Hospital Music took a few days to eventually get that far up the iTunes charts. So given that it hasn’t even been a full day is impressive.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Very impressive indeed, big one ups to you man!!!
Congrats on the very quick success on this album.. I heard some of the tracks you posted, sounds AWESOME!!!!
October 7th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Hospital Music was #1 on iTunes Canada the day it came out.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Ah ok, my mistake. My memory isn’t that good in my old age.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Matt,
Congratulations on the awesome success of the album! It was well deserved and for the fans well worth waiting for.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I wonder how this will effect the sales of Vancouver. Could it possibly reach number one at some point. I know given how well it is doing that Apple will be inclined to put it at the front of the store. I don’t know what the plans would be for a hard copy of that, but I’d consider pushing for distribution within US retail stores.
Has this effected the sales of your other albums?
October 7th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Cover design is gorgeous.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
it’s on the front page of new releases in the US iTunes store.
October 7th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
@ Shane – thanks; you, my friend, are not only a star but the whole f*cking galaxy!!…your copy is for me/my sister, my copy ( expensive courier charge) is for me/my sister…could only order one at a time, so, which ever one gets here first is mine. :0p
@ Suzie, Tuuli22 – I know…I’m an impatient bitch. Sorry ;0)
[Am I the only one who can't see the quote feature any more or am I a complete idiot?]
October 7th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Thank you. I just scored major points with my son, who could not go online today. After 10 years, he will finally get a signed copy of a Matthew Good CD (he was never lucky enough to get one in Montreal or Ottawa). Purchased one for myself and my daugther too :-)
P.S. Hopefully this outpouring of enthusiasm from your dedicated fans makes up a bit for those bad days…
October 7th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Glad I got in there when I did! I have a receipt for a “signed copy”, though when I was purchasing, it never indicated how many there were.. Actually I take that back, it said the first 200 people would receive one, so there you go, it looks like I was in the first wave =D
Matt: Obviously you had to know there would be quite a large demand for this album; is there a particular reason you chose to limit the CD run to 10,000 copies? I can think of a couple reasons, but I would like to know what your thoughts were when going through this process before I show my hand =P
Well done and congratulations, I am with mad and hope this makes up for some of the bad experiences you’ve had both at shows (e.g. people talking during them) and on the website.
October 7th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
What’s going on with only being able to order the first disc on iTunes Canada? Are we still limited to 128kbps rips from the iTMS?
October 7th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Thanks for signing the CD’s! I didn’t know it would come signed but was happy to see that this morning when I went to buy it. I’m so exicited to get it! Too bad I still have to wait over a month for it!
And if anyone was wondering, I think it was about at 10:20am (Eastern Time) today that it finally went up on maplemusic to buy.
October 7th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
I checked Maple Music at midnight EST last night and the CD wasn’t available. I checked this morning and it still wasn’t available. I really wanted to get a physical copy of it.
When exactly did it go on sale?
October 7th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
My silly question regarding Canadian availability on iTMS was answered by the discography page. Sure wish I had the edit button back.
October 7th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
It went on sale about 8:30 am MDT.
Congrats!! That’s awesome.
October 7th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
I’m glad I had to cover an extra part of a shift at work this morning. I stayed up late waiting for the preorder to show up. When I got up the CD wasn’t available, but when I checked after having a shower it was finally up.
The order says it’s a signed copy. I haven’t dealt with Maple Music with these sort of things before, so before I get too excited, does that actually my order was one of the first 300 (does that “signed copy” notice disappear from orders as soon as that number is reached, or will I be finding out after the order is processed that I was too late?).
October 7th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Damn. I didn’t wake up until 8am Pacific Time. I checked immediately and it still wasn’t available.
October 7th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
good to see there selling like hot cakes:)
October 7th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Daaamn! Missed signed CD pre-order… I briefly went through the comments here but didn’t see anything conclusive - will more signed CD’s be available for pre-sale?
I know there are remaining copies to be released on Nov 4 but I don’t expect to see much in Nova Scotia.
October 7th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
I just bought the CD on iTunes since I just missed getting a pre-order.
I guess there’s no chance for anymore signed copies? I’m currently in Las Vegas so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find the CD here once it’s released.
October 7th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Just imagine the effect has this been a Live DVD… :0)
October 7th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Massive congratulations, Matt! I hope this has brought a smile to your face and that you are going to be doing some celebrating today. You deserve it. :D
October 7th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
hey matt keep up the good work
ps dan bass sounds good on the live cd
October 7th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
hey matt the live cd sounds great job
October 7th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Wow I am so sad about this, I was up until 3 waiting for it and then up at 9 until 10:15 when I had to leave for work. Can’t believe they all sold out while I was at work.
October 7th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Merc, if your receipt says “signed copy” then that’s exactly what you’ll get.
October 7th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
October 7th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
d’you know why it’s selling like this matt?
cause it’s fucking unbelievable.
i was at this show, and i think you captured the raw essence of your performances.
well done, good sir, well done.
also, i hope more pre orders will be available soon, they apparently sold out while i was in class.
October 7th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
i bought an itunes card just so i could buy it, and then the fucking thing doesnt work. argh >:(
October 7th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
I like many others missed the presale on maple music (got it from itunes in the meantime) . Will more be made available? When the album is released on Nov 4 will it be at all Canadian retailers?
October 7th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
You’re moving up on U.S. iTunes - at #84 now!
October 7th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
I dont understand why an American can buy the whole album off itunes and I as a Canadian cannot:( Is this a plan to sell more physical copies or some stupid Apple business thing:(
October 7th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
masmullin, to quote Matt:
October 7th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Sweet, I’m American and have a US credit card, but I live in Toronto. I was able to buy the entire album through itunes USA and then listen to it here in Canada. Is that considered cheating? :)
October 7th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
I have to say… I loaded it on my Ipod and went for a Drive and listened to it Cranked up and it sounds fucking amazing… I absolutely love it, I was there at that concert Middle front row seats with my wife and it was an amazing experience that will be memorable for us for a very long time.
You hit it out of the park for sure with this one, Congratulations.
October 7th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Good for you Matt! little upset as when I got off work today, I went to pre-order and its already sold out! Jeeze, guess Ill have to fight the lines when its released to retail.
October 7th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
thats awesome matt
But I am actually sooo sad that I missed the pre-sale
I actually applied for a card a bit over 2 weeks ago and was planning on using it for the CD then it just came in today…directly 8 hours too late
booooo
October 7th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
I just checked my order status on MapleMusic and found that they have my name listed under both Ship to and Bill to (which it shouldn’t be since I had to borrow my parents credit card and entered their name on the order form). I hope it’s just a display error on my end. I’d hate to lose my signed copy because of a website error.
October 7th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
#63 on US iTunes!!!!! Going strong, Matt. :D
@Merc - I hope it’s just a glitch on the MapleMusic site! I’m being really paranoid, too, because I never got a confirmation email for my order. But my receipt is on the site, so *bites nails*
October 7th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
“The reason for this is because when the hard-copy is released it will only be available at Canadian retail.”
Ummm so what has that to do with iTunes? I don’t care about the hard copy.
Oh well, whatever… must be nice to live in the US (heh).
October 7th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
@taro_twist - Hopefully we’ll be fine. I sent an email to them about my problem. Of course after sending the email I noticed a typo in it and, given my current mindset, I was worried that might cause problems, so I had to send another email correcting it and explaining why, heh.
October 7th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
In an era of homogenized music lacking in substance…you are one of the few shining lights
October 7th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
I have been considering making a donation to some an organization in the area of advocacy and human rights as of recent but have tried to figure out how much and which one. I think I have found the solution.
I can afford around $100, and am going to let the minimum that I donate be determined by how far this album gets up there. If it gets to #1 at the end of a week(or during the span of it in the US Store I will donate at least $100 to Amnesty International. And each position gained would equate to one less dollar.
I think of no better way that I can show appreciation for the work that Matt has put into his work and the effect his work has had on me than this than this. The donation will probably be more than what the equivalent position on the chart as 37 seems like an odd number and I have the money, and it would probably go to something like a wrestling PPV and a video game anyways.
October 7th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
#53 now!
October 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Wow, I didn’t know there was only 200 signed copies available, I guess I got really lucky. I ordered mine at about 8:30 PDT this morning. I thought all 10,000 were signed. That sucks for everyone that missed out, but I gotta say I’m pretty stoked.
October 7th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
I’ve been unable to buy it off of iTunes here in Australia because my account is still in Canada and I have an Australian iTunes gift card and it won’t let me change my address. I have an email into the iTunes support, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet. bah!!
October 7th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
congrats Matt. for those of us that weren’t able to order through the Maple Music site, could you list which retail stores will carry the limited release 2-disc edition and will that be available to pre-order as well?
October 8th, 2008 at 4:35 am
That’s great to hear about the successful Itunes release. However, I prefer my music DRM free and of CD quality. I’m waiting for the physical release.
I also wonder how much artists make in profit from an online distributor such as Itunes vs. physical release in stores? Would you ever consider putting up an online FLAC-version of your music, Matt?
October 8th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Congrats Matt.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:57 am
Do you know what venues will be carrying the album on nov 4? It’s only limited copies right?
Congrats on the release stats Matt, that’s awesome!
Boo for me who just got home to find out that the pre-release sold out hours ago!
October 8th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Matt, there was another Live Album that is noteworthy released on the same date. How significant would it be to top The Clash in the US iTunes top 100 albums? Your album is only 4 behind that.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Congrats Matt!
I am one of the many Canadians that purchased a copy. It is absolutely fantastic!
As for the Americans, well, they consider Nickelback and Britney Spears top quality music, so it is hard to expect good taste from them. :P
October 8th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Matthew Good’s signed double live disc and Bob Dylan’s new double Cd all on the same day? This is better than Xmas.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
I didn’t realize it yesterday but looking at my order confirmation from Maple Music it shows that I have pre-ordered a signed copy of the CD. I was happy just to get my pre-order in but this was a very nice surprise. Thanks Matt for making signed copies available.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Damn, I waited one day and they’re already sold out? Please tell me you plan on doing some more signed cds.
October 8th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Thanks Matt for another wonderful release. I never got the chance to see you live and as such have to admit I’m amazed by the way you and your band bring down all my favourite “studio classics” live. I’m aware that it’s unrealistic to expect to see you play in Europe in the near future, but if you make it to the UK next time …. why not bring your guitar and play a couple of tunes in a London pub? I’d surely not be the only one to travel across the channel to see you there.
Otherwise, keep up the great job you’re doing in this blog, both politically and in leading the way to modern artist-fan relationship.
And a big cheers to all fellow fans in Canada and the States for actually keepiing this whole community running. Without you, there’d be nothing to participate in for us few in Europe.
Greets from Norway,
Slater
October 8th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Matt’s at #49 ahead of The Clash. :D Top 50, yeah!
October 8th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Quoting MPalazzo: Off topic - I know we are all caught up in the new release but if anyone is not reading Matt’s bookmarked links on the right side of the homepage, then you are missing some very important content.
You’re right MPalazzo - the Georgian war account is very moving.
There seems to be a bit of tension in the air… It’s too bad we don’t have anything from MG or other contributors to comment on right now. Totally off subject of the new release, I thought I would pass on a few jokes that made me LOL:
The Government of Canada today announced that it is changing its emblem from a MAPLE LEAF to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government’s political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you’re actually being screwed!
You know, it just doesn’t get more accurate than that!
From the Health Canada self-help web pages:
Q: The Stanley Cup was recently on tour in my town, and I kissed it. Do I have to worry about being infected by listeria bacteria ?
A: You are safe. The Stanley Cup has not been in contact with any Maple Leaf in over 40 years.
October 8th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Why can Canadians only download Side One of your live album whereas (at least to my understanding) every other country can go ahead and download both sides?
That’s a pretty creative way to take a crap on your largest (and most loyal) group of fans.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Who knew that this thing would sell like hot cakes…
oh wait….
October 8th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Nevermind, I got the answer. My bad.
October 8th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Side one is awesome. its just perfect. please give me side 2
October 9th, 2008 at 4:04 am
Got mine from the US iTunes store (rip off Britain again!!!!), but again iTunes pisses me off with their shoddy rips.
Every song has a 2 second gap at the end of silence. Really mucks up the flow of the live set and I’m now going to have to waste more time with an iTunes download trying to fix it.
Great tunes Matt, but iTunes will have to improve 100% before I’ll ever use them again. Very poor show on their part.
October 9th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Congrats Matt! My fiancee got me into your music and we saw you recently in Hamilton and then in Buffalo and both were really great shows. I was really down when I found out that the pre-release was sold out so I’ll hope to find a copy at retail. Hopefully some more are released for pre-order. Anyway, all the best!
October 9th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Arg… I have been so busy with work lately I completely missed the pre sale. I am hoping that there might be a few more released!
Does anyone know if the album will be available through the online store on November 4th? That happens to be a Tuesday and I will not be able to physically get to a music store… so I am hoping to be able to purchase it online. Any info on that would be great :)
Congrats on the stats….. Matt!!!
October 9th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Matt
Great work on the live album.
Those who got it on Itunes block select the entire album and set it to “Determine Gapless Playback”. That will play it Disc At Once and get rid of those tedious 2 second clips between tracks.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
At least on I-tunes USA version (until McCain and his cronies decide to invade canada but I digress), you can very easily play album straight through without gaps. My last post was a bit unclear
Select the songs
Choose file> Get Info
Click Options
Select “Part of a Gapless Album”
Then it will play through on Ipod or burned disc.
Thanks again for the album, Matt. Tour again soon!
October 10th, 2008 at 2:37 am
Thanks for the tip Usual Suspect, but it doesn’t work for me. Still have the 2 second gap at the end of every song.
I’ve even tried changing the end times of the tracks and it still gives the 2 second gap.
October 15th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Hey Matt.
Any news on when/if additional copies of the record will be made available for pre-sale on the on-line store?
Thanks.
