Before they got called on it, the geniuses at Investor’s Business Daily claimed in an article about healthcare that were Stephen Hawking born in the UK he’d have died because the British healthcare system would have failed him. Of course, Hawking is British, which means that British healthcare played a rather significant role in ensuring that we weren’t deprived of his genius. Investor’s Business Daily have since retracted the statement, obviously embarrassed that the mistake revealed that they either they can’t afford an editorial staff or that their editorials are proofed by a drunk meerkat.
What the fuck is up America?
What is all of this nonsense about “death panels”?
What’s with people believing that paid agitators at town hall meetings are actually just regular folks exercising their First Amendment rights?
What’s up with you not realizing that the best healthcare systems in the world, as ranked by the World Health Organization, are socialized?
What’s up with you forgetting that your own military healthcare system is socialized?
What’s up with people actually giving credence to the likes of Sarah Palin who refers to socialized healthcare as “evil” but has the audacity to glorify America’s fighting men and women who, if they get injured, are covered by a socialized system because, as the mantra goes, “our troops deserve the best”.
What’s with the national amnesia? When did everyone forget that private insurance companies have been screwing over low income customers for decades?
Lastly, how does it feel to live in the world’s wealthiest nation and yet know that tens of millions of Americans don’t have healthcare because they can’t afford it?
Here’s the deal America. If you can justify spending in excess of $700 billion dollars a year on defense, you can make sure every American has health coverage. It’s that simple.
