Facebook Query

I have a question regarding Facebook that perhaps someone can help me with. As you know, the first menu item is “photos of you”. I currently have 356, and not one of them did I actually post myself. Added to this, anyone can comment on them, even in a completely derogatory manner. Basically I’m wondering why you don’t have control over that aspect of your page? If people want to tag photos, that’s fine, but why do they show up on my page as “my photos”?

You can untag those photos, from what I understand..

  2. CenteroftheUterus Says:

Matt - I think there is something in the privacy settings that lets you decide who can tag you etc…if thats any help…If it cant be tagged then it is just kind of lost in space….
I have pictures of you up from your last Vic show…I will gladly remove them if you’d prefer…

  3. nicoleinguelph Says:

When you are looking at the picture, beside your name, there will be a remove tag link. Also, you can change your privacy settings as to who sees pics tagged of you.

  4. andkatewaslike Says:

you can hide them too so there’s no link in your profile

  5. nicoleinguelph Says:

You did something right because now no tagged pics are available!!

  6. andkatewaslike Says:

you can still see them but no one else can

Go to ‘Privacy’, Click the ‘Profile’ Link. There is an option “Photos Tagged of You”…change that setting to ‘only you’ so therefore only you can see tagged photos of yourself. It is not a total solution but it is better than the alternative. There really should be an privacy option that fails to allow other people to tag you in photos.

See, what I don’t like, as a non-facebook-ite, is that I cannot police photos of me on the network — outside of putting my hand in front of my face in social situations where someone’s wielding a camera. OR joining. And the hell with that!

  9. ErikE Says:

hehe…well your floating around like what….3,000 friends I think the dogs have some catching up to do…:)
Ya. But I get my picture taken with people all the time, especially after shows, and they should be able to post them and whatnot. It’s when offensive or tasteless comments are left about photos that the link to my page is not wanted.
Yeah…totally understandeable. Ah just tag the person back on a picture of something totally wrong…like the pictures we have seen of totally drunk people in precarious positions.

  11. Monkey Says:

That’s sad…if you want to read all about it, go to Help (bottom right) then Photos - all the rules about commenting/tagging are there.

Your dogs are superstars and should have a tour of their own for christsake. I’ve heard them singing along on YouTube.

Alright, i’ll take one for the team. Want me to start tagging myself as random objects in those pictures to get the users thinking “What the… what the fuck is this!?”. maybe it could re-direct some of those comments about you onto the guy who tagged himself as a coffee table 350 times in a row. Just give me the word Matt!.

  15. JamieGilks Says:

Matt, do you have your profile viewable to the public? I would like to add my favorite artist to my list of friends. :)

    Jamie

  16. JamieGilks Says:

    NM…I figured it out lol

  17. mackenzie Says:

Awww meatt, please add me to facebook… Meagan MacKenzie…

  18. TracyRobar Says:

Matt, I have learned that there will always be one asshole out there to ruin it for everyone else. Just like our parents use to say, “If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all!”

  19. debn8r Says:

I can’t find your facebook page darn it. :(
    I suck at facebook :P

  20. Cat Says:

Hold the phone, Casey and Benji have a facebook page? I should create a page for my bunny Sox and then they can be friends.

  21. sneaky Says:

I agree with mat_, Facebook is the DEVIL!

  22. senorfunk Says:

I agree with the few above and the general minority… Facebook eats babies!

  23. Melanie Lowe Says:

mmmm you can untag yourself in which they’ll no longer show up. I know it’s annoying… people post the most haggard assed pictures of me from parties and what not and they don’t seem to want to take them off. It’s a bitch.

  24. Charmaine Says:

I didn’t think that anyone could comment on them only their friends? People probably just want to show you. But yeah… I would maybe want that to stop too. Then you can have it the way you want it.

  25. cloudburst Says:

    Hey Matt,

When you load the tagged photo of yourself the “remove tag” option will show up under the picture.

  26. Jordan Says:

Guys hes said before thats too much of a hassle to untag yourself in a photo 365 times. Besides if you check Matts page i think he found a way to not display tagged photos of himself.

  27. wallflower Says:

My only Facebook complaint is that as much as I love having Matt as a friend (and I would never want otherwise) everytime he adds a new friend I get a notification. Therefore my first page that I see when I log on is a constant stream of who Matt added. Mixed in are my few little visits from my like, 5 friends. Plus my kids won’t be my friends because I may see some questionable photos, oooooo, but my girlfriend’s daughter will be my friend so I get to see many of the photos anyway! Justice prevails!

I enjoy when my friends find out Matt is my friend. If they only knew how simple it was and how generous Matt is! xxoo

And many thanks to whoever updated the automatic Hospital Music blurb on the pages. For the longest time it was stuck at 36 days to…

Now if I could only figure out the gravatar thing. Everytime I think I have it, it just disappears.

I am not a fan of Facebook, though I have one. It’s a glib novelty for one, because I’m getting dozens of requests at a time (from friends and family, no less) to install miscellaneous pieces of software so that I can send e-hugs or e-zombies or whatever else seems ‘cute’ at the time.

I realise I sound heinously bitter, but it’s just because I’m concerned with the manner in which individuals police each other so that a restrictive government doesn’t even have to. Moreso than MySpace or even LiveJournal, Facebook makes it possible to spy on your friends and acquaintances and family members so that you everyone is able to keep up with the minutiae in the lives of everyone else. I realise that you can make settings private or even refuse to add people as friends altogether, but that in and of itself sends a message.

I guess it all just creeps me out. And think about the generation following us - our kids. Won’t they all be socially expected to maintain some form of online identity?

  29. nic Says:

I believe we should only invite our “friends” on facebook…do people really have over 300 friends??? Maybe people ya know, but if your letting people you hardly know into your everyday life your asking for trouble. Matt perhaps you should make your profile private is my only sugg. Really though, do we need to tag you??? ffs… we all know who you are, keep singing Matt. I am listening, cheers. Also another thought I’m sure you would love to mull over, is that perhaps facebook is the governments conspiracy to keep tabs on all of us and our friends???? However, I love facebook and like it or not everyone is talking about it, offline.

    ps…..please come to Vernon??? lol

Click on [Account] in the top right corner. You can edit your privacy settings to eliminate various types of notifications. If I remember correctly it is a news feed, mini feed option that you need to disable. I managed to do it and can’t remember what option it was I disabled. I managed to eliminate and customize my privacy to a level where I don’t get annoying updates and I can’t maintain a certain level of privacy.

With regards to Facebook privacy, I was looking into the Superpoke application and got a warning that if I chose to use the application that my facebook info would be available to a third-party organization. So if your really concerned with controlling your privacy keep in mind that certain applications may subject your profile to third-party contacts.

The whole conspiracy thing…well the government has access to anyone with a Hotmail/Yahoo! account (to name a few) and associated e-mail contacts. Right or wrong, privacy was lost long before Facebook.

    I hate Facebook, it’s a friends race and a pedifilic (pedifile-ic?) paradise!

  32. tsoderlu Says:

    OMG the other day I noticed I have 100 friends… wtf…
I get added by people I haven’t seen in 20 years and more than half of them don’t say ‘hey’.. so, why bother? I don’t want people to think I have 100 friends because it’s not the truth.. so i agree with JC25, it’s just a race for friends…….. Even if we weren’t on Matt’s website, I would still say that it’s an exception for a celebrity like Matt or anyone else in the biz, because it’s a nice way to email your fave celeb instead of getting the address to a fan club and mail a letter. does that even happen these days? I like the idea of clicking ’send Matt a message’ and in 5 minutes he’ll see exactly how he’s effected my life with his music……. and I know for sure he got it….. not lost in the mail….. for that I like Facebook….. it’s like a fan club….. but i’m not a celebrity, so I wish passed friends would stop adding me cuz I’m not popular by any means… i’m a nerd with 5 friends and i like it that way.
Facebook = the devil, no further details
