Go Vote Ontario. If you haven’t, you got 15 minutes left.
Or I’ll dip you in gravy and stick you in a room with a wolverine high on angel dust….
For some reason the title of the post makes me think of that Costello song Veronica.
“You can call me anything that you want but my name is Veronica…”
Friggin’ tangents…go vote.
Oh and good job on HNIC to my good buddy Jeff Marek!

hey Pat, you weren’t on the off chance up at base Borden today were you? Saw someone outside the Canex up there that looked like you in all the Jays game pics Raymi posts, only less blasted.

Jeff Marek is so great.
So is voting in my old elementary school which apparently began to shrink once I left it.

I voted.
I wonder how many others that were in my polling station district did though….on my voter’s card it had the name of a school and address to vote at that I was not familiar with, in spite of living here in Hamilton for over 20 years now. I mapquested the address…no result. I googled it…an address about 10 km away from me came up…I thought, that can’t be right. I made a phone call to elections Canada, and was given another phone number, then routed to another phone number. Finally, after talking to several different people, I discovered where my polling station was: turns out they’d relocated a school that was at the original google address, and renamed it in an entirely new subdivision.
When I went to hunt it down and vote, there were no signs until you got to the new subdivision, which was not on a main intersection.
Finally I went in to vote after finding it. I asked the people at the poll station how many people had come to vote so far. It was 3 pm. They told me 28 people had thus far voted at that station. 28. In a city of over half a million, I find this pathetic. I told them about my difficulties in finding the voting station, and I will be letting my member of parliament know as well.
I’m sure others maybe not as politically um…rabid…as I am said ‘fuck it’ and didn’t bother. :(
And they wonder why everyone doesn’t vote.

Your lucky you even got a voters card … lol
I don’t know why but we didn’t get a voters card nor were we on the voters list .
But we got er done !!!

Finding the actual polling station is usually beneficial for voting too though lol
I haven’t received voting cards in the past as well.
It’s a conspiracy, I tells ya!! haha

I voted. I wasn’t going to, though. I couldn’t decide who to vote for because I didn’t like any of them. It was really weird.

50% voter turnout - pretty shameful considering ontario is the most populous of the provinces.

I voted. I just had to decide first; Giant Douche or Turd Sandwich.

37% for MMP. Pretty sad.
Report
I am pleased with the votes, Ontario was on the ball.
Report
I’ve been looking for that stat since they closed the polls.
37% is unfortunate. I heard mention earlier this week that hardly 50% of Ontarians knew their was a referendum going on, so what do you expect.
Might have had a better chance passing the new voting system had BC picked it up when a similar system came their way; they apparently voted 57% in favor, the required vote being 60… blast it all…

I had the same fucking problem and it was raining. I used public transit to prove the poor or uneducated can vote. Guess what it’s a pain in the ass. How come I can’t vote form my desktop or telephone? I found my polling station and voted. Thank god fuck the PC Party.

The first I heard of the referendum was when I got my voter’s card in the mail three weeks ago and even after doing the research the best I could, I still didn’t completely understand it. The jist I got, from a forwarded email, was something along the lines of changing the voting to allow you to vote for a person as well as a party, and somehow in the end the government would be appointing a lot more than what we would like as a democracy. I ended up voting for the “keep it the way it is” option because there’s no fucking way they were going to change it without fully explaining it to me. I wasn’t the only one in my circle, either. My mom and I discussed what we knew all weekend and we still didn’t understand it.
A little more preparation next time would be appreicated.

This was more of a reminder than a post.
Aaron - was not at Borden- the Chuck E Cheeses of all CF bases.
P is shite. More than that is the lack of persons who understood the referndum. I had initially thought the online campaign to promote awareness was pretty good.
Though Dancing IN The Stars has Floyd Mayweather on it and we have to save some of our voting juices for that.
Whoever said the candidates seemed very close (McGuinty/Tory) I have to agree. Not close in policy so much as close in “i don’t like either that much”.
Zack - chicken burritto for you for the S.Park ref.

37% for MMP
Some people will go with, pardon the nickname, the devil they know over the devil they don’t. The people behind MMP did a horrible job of explaining what they were trying to do, which is probably why there weren’t a lot of votes for it. All the radio ads kept telling us was that “ooh, this is a difficult decision to make, so get informed.” But they didn’t inform us in any way.
I knew what it was because I went looking for the answers. Some people are too lazy to do that.
I voted. My candidate won. Does it make a difference? I don’t know.

The other 50% had the right idea. The corporations run the show, not the elected officials.
One of these days, we should all boycott the vote.

You want people to vote, find someone like Jay Billington Bulworth.
You want to know who I’m talking about? Rent or download “Bulworth”.

37%???
that’s IT!?
how the hell is the rest of canada supposed to adopt a fairer voting system if if can’t get off the ground after a huge sponsorship scandal and equally hollow conservatives?
jesus…
and that story about not being able to find the voting station is typical. they do that to you on purpose so you WON’T find it. and therefore won’t vote in a manner they don’t like. if seeing it in the Bush elections wasn’t proof enough, I’ve seen a bit firsthand during the Liberal leadership race that they can get rather crafty with these things…
looks like the boat left us on this one again… how long are we gonna put up with having a vote that only means something 1 day every 4 years?

While I wholeheartedly agree that the corporations run the show, I will always vote simply because I am fighting back against the people who want to take my freedoms away from me. The one time we all decide to boycott, will be the day that a party like the Familiy Coalition wins. Eww. *shudders a little*

OK seriously, someone acknowledge that they have seen Bulworth. I can’t be the only one who is in love with this movie. It’s about a politician who has a life altering experience and decides to say fuck you to his campaign and supporters by speaking (GASP!) THE TRUTH about everything. Warren Beatty, Don Cheadle, Halle Berry. WATCH IT.

I’ve seen it. it licked my nuts. and even with halle berry involved in that act i still give it thumbs down.
