This listeriosis thing is somewhat troublesome being that I consume a great deal of deli meat - actually, I just eat a lot of Prosciutto, all of which is imported from Italy, so. But it's troubling for the public nonetheless. If you haven't heard about what's transpiring, the CBC has details. More »

I feel like I have been dropped off of a building into molten lava and then stretched out over a cookie sheet. Can’t sleep, have a hard time keeping food down, dizzy, very little energy, constant headache. To be honest, I’m thinking of going to hospital.
This was not the week to have four dogs at home. One of the reasons I haven’t gone to hospital is because I’m worried about Bella. Given the thickness of her coat, she’s shedding at an incredible rate, and I ...More »

As most Vancouverites are aware, central air is something that doesn’t really exist on the West Coast. Sure, there are a few newer high-end resident high-rises that have it, but most don’t.
My place is a large, single 1,200 sq foot room with concrete floors and 18 foot ceilings – but the two windows only open 4 inches. The hallways in the building are air conditioned, but not the apartments, which means that in weather like this it can get as hot as 40 degrees in ...More »

It’s currently some time after midnight. I’m sitting on the bus in the dark, everyone gone into the hotel to sleep in proper beds for a change. I can’t abide hotel rooms anymore for some reason. I used to stay in them, but ever since I started touring again last year I’ve found that I prefer to remain on the bus and sleep in my bunk, even when it’s sitting in the parking lot of a hotel. I guess I just like the humming sound ...More »

So basically your take was screw over those tiny little rustbelt cities, you probably don't have many fans there anyways (not realizing how close to Canada those places are, and you DO have US fans in this towns) and save yourself for the more metro areas? That's pretty craptacular of you Matt, thanks for nothing.

So here I am again. I have this sneaking suspicion that maybe I didn’t get food poisoning but a flu that has been prevalent in Los Angeles now for some weeks. Roy told me about it and said that it had sidelined some of his friends quite severely for up to three weeks. After the show in Detroit I saw a friend there for a little while and now they’re sick as well, same symptoms, so maybe that could be it. Then again neither Paul ...More »

Frozen in time. That’s where I’ve been. Frozen in photographs locked in my head, filed away for just such delusional occasions as this. We moved hotels the day before yesterday - I didn’t even notice. I watched four films, or parts of them anyway, but couldn’t tell you what they were. But I do remember the dreams, disturbing and prolonged, filled with faces from the past, filled with regret and wandering. I woke up into my life after five days of being out of it ...More »

From what I remember of yesterday, we moved hotels. We left Solana Beach and traveled to San Diego proper to be closer to the airport. Right now things are pretty touch and go, though I am feeling somewhat better today than I was yesterday. Then again, I slept for 18 hours yesterday, so I don’t remember much of it. I do remember that the guys did get me some Robaxacet because my muscles were in such pain that I could barely move and that it ...More »

So here I am...
Back in the belly of the beast... (well, not literally... ICK...)
After a 12 hour sojourn away with my mommy I drove back into San Diego from her home in the high desert...
A change in sick bay (new hotel), a change in scheduling (sorry Austin), and a change in drugs (LOTSA PAINKILLERS), your fave Canadian singer/songwriter (other than Paul Anka) is pretty doped up... when I got here last night he sounded like a 45 being played at 33 1/3...
I ...More »

Due to the persistency of Matthew's bout with severe food poisoning, he has regrettably been forced to also cancel tomorrow night's SXSW show at Momo's in Austin, Texas. As much as Matthew was looking forward to playing, the doctor has placed him on a large volume of drugs and he's been rendered nearly immobile. He took a turn for the worse and, though he had posted he was going to play in Austin, it won't be happening.
This is undoubtedly frustrating for Matthew, ...More »
