I have to admit, as much as I despite politics, I absolutely love how it exposes our stupidity and unwillingness to call a spade a spade. If you’re honest with yourself, how much time do you spend on a daily basis thinking about the elected representatives that run this country? How much time do you spend wondering what it is that they’re up to and whether or not it’s actually in your best interest, let alone in the interest of others that are, for example, ...More »

The world’s most technologically advanced military keeps missing. When it comes to the barbaric act of stoning people to death, chances are there are more hits than misses. The Iranians plan to put that theory to the test. Others are merciful enough to wash clean their conscience by employing lethal injection. Death’s a franchise. In the UK a parliamentary oversight committed has come to the conclusion that the British government should no longer accept on blind faith American assurances that it doesn’t use torture. It’s a little ...More »

It’s no secret that former President Jimmy Carter has his detractors. His more recent attempts to confront the problems plaguing Israeli - Palestinian relations have drawn scorn from many quarters, with many labeling him anti-Israeli. And now, during remarks made at the recent Hay-on-Wye festival, he has done what no American President has ever dared to do – openly state that Israel possesses nuclear weapons. Despite the fact that within the international intelligence community it is widely known that Israel possesses a nuclear arsenal that ...More »

With help from readers I’ve been able to track down what was said by John Lehman, Senator McCain’s foreign policy advisor, to Wolf Blitzer during a recent interview on CNN with regards to Iran… “They trained some of the 9/11 conspirators. They gave them free passage to al Qaeda.” Rather than simply discarding this for the nonsense that it is, let’s examine two fundamental questions regarding this statement. First, where did Lehman get his information? Obviously it’s not something that the current administration is willing to promote, which ...More »

Of all those that served in the military in my family, the one common trait shared by all of them is that they did not like to talk about their experiences. My Grandfather and Great Uncles went to lengths to avoid the topic, and as an inquisitive youngster I was sometimes scolded for my curiosity. At the time, of course, I couldn’t understand why, but as a grown man it’s something that I do. Other members of my extended family have also served and seen ...More »

When the minority government of Stephen Harper came to power it did so with the promise that transparency and accountability would be its cornerstones. Since that time, Harper’s government has taken various steps in the other direction, the most recent being the quiet dissolution of CAIRS - the Coordination of Access to Information Requests System. Instituted in 1989 as an internal mechanism with which to monitor requests and allow Canadian agencies to co-ordinate their responses to the release of sensitive information, it has also since been ...More »
