There is no side to be taken but that of the innocent, of those who pay with their lives for the corruptions of others. Hostilities between South Ossetian and Abkhazian separatists and the Georgian military didn’t suddenly begin earlier this month, they began more than a decade ago. During that time, as is always the case when fools employ guns to solve their problems, innocents have lost their lives. I have removed every entry that I have made about the conflict, and my reason for ...More »

I spend most of my time dealing with darkness. I do so because to present it to others, to confront its realities, means that we are all forced to look for the light that is found within it, to search its seemingly impossible recesses for hope. That is why I spend the time that I do dedicated to the content of this website on a daily basis, because though the world is, and I’ll not mince words, a rather horrible place, it is also one ...More »

The most difficult aspect of my job is not to be found in the writing, production, or performance of music. It’s to be found in the stories that reach me, either after shows by individuals themselves or by email. I do not mention this to say that I think it an unfair burden, nor one that I wish I did not have to shoulder. I mention this because, in the end, we are all human and it is only right that we be remembered, even ...More »

First, a video by the always-impeccable Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip… Second, from North Carolina’s The News & Observer… “Some conservative groups are urging parents to keep children home from school today if their fellow students will be taking part in the annual Day of Silence observation. Thousands of middle- and high-school students across the nation, including some in the Triangle, plan to take a vow of silence today to bring attention to the bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered students. Participation and support for the event, ...More »

In the documentary 11th Hour, former CIA Director James Woolsey, of all people, makes a very important point with regards to the correlation between consumerism and industrial opportunism and the ability to affect change in a very short period of time given what are traditionally viewed as ‘exceptional circumstances’. Woolsey’s point of reference was the transformation of the US auto industry into an industrial mechanism with which to produce aircraft, tanks, and a variety of other military necessities during the early stages of America’s involvement in ...More »

In the last five days, eighteen US soldiers have been killed in Iraq. Eighteen more American families will be getting that dreaded knock on their front door by an Officer accompanied by a Chaplain. Wives, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, will be presented a tightly folded American flag while the deafening discharge produced from the rifles of an Honour Guard echo off of nearby graves. Where was he? What was he thinking about in the last moments of his life? Were images of ...More »

Browbeaten by big monsters and made out to be a paint-by-numbers cutout of who you are, this life's more dimensional than three-dimensional, so why do those who you rely on to assist you in something like recovering from an accident insist on keeping you only two-dimensional to do so? I am not numbers on a chart, I cannot be surmised to be mappable and calculable and predictably treated. It is, without doubt, the most irritating thing I've endured through out the last year and a ...More »

I want to say this just to get it out of the way – I have never sucked my own dick for a case of beer. That said; the Juno Awards are this weekend if I’m not mistaken. For those that have been speculating, no, I will not be attending them. To be honest, I won’t be winning the award that I’m up for either. While I have never sucked my own dick, I will admit to being a bit of a Juno psychic. Here’s ...More »

Roy worries about me. To be honest, that worry is returned, but in this case he has substantive journalism to back it up, so he wins. As many of you are aware, actor Heath Ledger died not long ago from an overdose. Of course, that word can be misconstrued, and following his death, especially given his profession, morbid speculation was rampant – because let’s be honest with ourselves, we live in a society that loves gossip and morbidity above all things. Had I not survived my ...More »

Plenty of conversations today. Plenty of wondering what we all do now. Time’s stood still in a way, but the years are there to prove otherwise. We’re different, subdued, but okay with it. Waiting on some innocent teenage love to save us, too old to believe it’s still possible, too stubborn to abandon the hope that it isn’t. I’ve woken up for years and seen you. Your hair smells like summer feels when you’re a kid; worriless. We’re old and we’re withered and we’re there on ...More »
