As I asserted in a recent entry regarding her lack of knowledge about the tenets of the Bush Doctrine, Sarah Palin is a dangerous woman. Some assert that ignorance is bliss. Unfortunately, that is not an assertion that can be applied to anyone that might be placed in the position of being followed around by the Football. In the very same interview with ABC in which Palin was unable to answer a direct question about the nation’s current foreign policy doctrine, she also opined about US ...More »

It is altogether proper that we fear nuclear weapons. While one has not been used in 63 years – 63 years ago on this very day, in fact - the horror and devastation wrought by the two employed in the summer of 1945 was enough to usher in an age of unprecedented fear and paranoia. In the wake of that fear and paranoia a nuclear arms race would commence that would help promote a theory that to maintain nuclear détente the production of weapons was ...More »

They tried it here on the home continent and didn’t get too far. Fears that North Korean missiles might reign down on North Battleford, Saskatchewan, weren’t enough to convince the government that all out Canadian participation in the proposed defense shield was warranted. As many of you are aware, I was very much opposed to Canada’s participation in the BMD program, and was proud to stand with Steve Staples and others involved in the Ceasefire initiative against it. Unfortunately, and despite the fact the most ...More »

If you read one thing this weekend, or month for that matter, read this piece by former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter. In it, Ritter confronts the shady practices of David Albright, the president of the Institute for Science and International Security, an organization that Albright himself started. Two of the more revealing passages from Ritter’s piece read… I can’t say for certain when Albright became “Doctor” Albright. A self-described “physicist,” he allows the term to linger, as he does the title “former U.N. inspector,” ...More »

North Korea has been removed from the auspicious “Axis Of Evil”. After handing over documentation regarding its nuclear practices to Chinese officials, the Bush Administration announced that it will be lifting key trade sanctions against Pyongyang. Of course, the North Korean regime still possesses a nuclear arms capability, and while their willingness to surrender information to the Chinese is seen by the US as a beginning, it is by no means an assurance that the North Koreans are going to abandon their possession of nuclear ...More »

When madmen open their mouths these days the severity of their words tends to get more attention depending on where they’re from. For example, what do you think the response would be were a high ranking Iranian official to utter the following… “A top Iranian official has said that if Israel continues with its alleged nuclear arms programme, Iran will attack it.” First, spare me the tired argument that Ahmadinejad claimed that Israel should be wiped off the face of the map. Despite the fact that the ...More »

The following is an open letter sent from Mordechai Vanunu to The People's Voice... "Dear Editors I am Mordechai Vanunu, the man who told the truth about Israel's Nuclear Weapons Program in 1986 and paid with 18 years of my life in Isreali Prison. I was released in April 2004, but Israel denied me my human rights of free speech and freedom of movement - not allowed to leave since 1986, until now 2008. On July 8, 2008, I will return to court to appeal a new 6 ...More »

It’s no secret that former President Jimmy Carter has his detractors. His more recent attempts to confront the problems plaguing Israeli - Palestinian relations have drawn scorn from many quarters, with many labeling him anti-Israeli. And now, during remarks made at the recent Hay-on-Wye festival, he has done what no American President has ever dared to do – openly state that Israel possesses nuclear weapons. Despite the fact that within the international intelligence community it is widely known that Israel possesses a nuclear arsenal that ...More »

Since the advent of the nuclear age, only two nuclear weapons have ever been employed, both in August of 1945 on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While many will argue that their use was required to avoid directly invading the Japanese islands, an effort that the government and military at the time claimed would cost the lives of upwards of a million US soldiers, the reality was that most of Japan has been decimated by conventional fire bombing, that the government of Japan ...More »

If you’re labouring under the misconception that the Bush Administration is going to leave office without first confronting the Iranians, it’s time to start paying serious attention. The propaganda machine is in full swing, led by a new report by the State Department that labels Iran the most active sponsor of terrorism. If you can believe it, the Sudanese government actually ranked lower despite the fact that it has been complicit in supporting the Janjiweed who have been responsible for a genocidal campaign in Darfur. ...More »
