I was forwarded some information regarding perfectthewayweare.ca which I thought impressive. From the press release: October 14th may be the most discussed election date in recent memory; individuals’ voices—and votes—have never mattered more. Perfectthewayweare.ca, an online resource website and video, was created by a group of young Canadians who want to draw attention to some of the major issues Canada is facing right now. They launched this viral movement to ensure that all Canadians are informed on the positions of each party and have the resources available ...More »

The Adler School of Professional Psychology in downtown Vancouver is hosting a forum on mental health and social justice. Admission is free to all, and the hall has 250+ seats. "[This is] an opportunity for candidates to present their positions on or plans to address social issues and inequities that affect individual and community health. Inequality exists in Vancouver today and has a major impact on mental health of individuals in our community. This forum is intended for students, counsellors and other health professionals concerned about the impact ...More »

I first want to make a statement regarding tonight’s debate that has nothing to do with the issues discussed. All Canadians should take a moment and digest the fact that we live in one of the only countries in the world in which political engagements are conducted bilingually. No matter where you happen to come from in this country, that is a point of pride that all Canadians should identify with. That said; if it were possible to take everyone at that table tonight and somehow ...More »

There are those that will argue that the controversy regarding Mr. Harper and the speech that he gave in Parliament in 2003 that plagiarized a speech given by Australia’s then Prime Minister, John Howard, is little more than a political move on the part of the Liberals, who are waning in the polls. Given that we’re in the midst of a federal election, I’ll certainly not deny that this revelation is incredibly timely, especially given the fact that the speech was made five years ago. That ...More »

The Prime Minister is asking that the upcoming debate’s full hour be devoted to the economy, obviously in response to the current crisis in the United States. The NDP is supporting the amendment. Something that should not escape anyone is the ability to use what is currently transpiring as a tool of political fear. President Bush attempted to cast the crisis in just such a light prior to Congress voting down the proposed bailout package, and he continues to do so. Of course, lost in ...More »

... not even close. In fact I (and I would wager most Canadians) love the U.S., for so many reasons. In its history, The United States has produced many of the world's foremost musicians, authors, poets, actors, playwrights, athletes, politicians, scientists, post-secondary schools, et al. We as Canadians regularly enjoy the aforementioned for the fruits they bare in our lives everyday, in all aspects of our culture, whether we know it or not. So when I or any other Canadian write of the deeply flawed and ...More »

This afternoon I had the pleasure of having the Honourable Libby Davies (Member of Parliament, Vancouver East) over for a light lunch and a fantastic conversation. As I have stated in the past, I do not support any one Canadian political party, but I am firm supporter of Libby Davies, whose heartfelt dedication to this riding is unquestionable. Libby is, without question, the real article. I invite those interested in learning more about her to visit her official website. More »

One of Libby Davies' people contacted me today, so I’m going to hopefully have her over for some tea and talk some politics with her. As most of you know, I don’t back any one party, so the fact that Libby is a member of the NDP is inconsequential to me. I back Libby, that’s all that need be said. For those of you that have been following David Eby’s quest for local office, he lost by only 17 votes this weekend. From what I understand ...More »
