This past Friday, Bill Maher made one of the best points he's ever made... There's nothing wrong with being "elite."
Say it loud: I'm elite and proud! The right-wing crusade to demonize elites has paid off. Now the country's run by incompetents who make mediocrity a job requirement and recruit from Pat Robertson's law school. New rule: Now that liberals have taken back the word liberal, they also have to take back the word "elite." By now you've heard the constant right-wing attacks on the "elite," ...More »

A very close friend of mine, Matt Russell, has been playing in a band called "Ruth" for something like 11 years. The members are Matt Russell (drums), Todd Russell (Matt's brother -- guitar), and Ruth Peterson (vocals). Ruth was recently diagnosed with colon cancer.
From the band's website:
Please know that Ruth is surrounded by family and friends and that she’s in very good spirits despite all that she is going through, both physically and emotionally. She will continue working on the new cd and ...More »

Not to jump on the video bandwagon here, but I saw this for the first time tonight and was blown away by it. I've been at odds for a while now about who I want to support for president and this video may have clinched it for me. This is from a little earlier in the month, so my apologies if a majority of you have already seen it. If not, enjoy!

John Edwards won't be getting my vote in the upcoming presidential election. Edwards likely has more money than I do, he's probably much more intelligent than I am and most certainly has more life experience than I do. However, I figured out something that Edwards still doesn't know: There's nothing more important than family.
After finding out that his wife doesn't have long to live, his only priority should have been figuring out how he can spend every minute with her--not whether or not he should ...More »

As a left leaning American, I used to hate people like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter. Then I chilled out and just kind of realized that they (Ann Coulter, Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, et al) basically do what they do to make money. And hey, there's nothing wrong with that as long as you realize that's what they're all about. In fact, whenever I refer to any of the above named pundits in conversation, I always precede their name with the word "comedian," so it's "Comedian ...More »

On February 3, 2007 at 12:55am, CNN reported on what is probably the most damming global warming report to date. The highlights are as follows:
Scientists release a 21-page report strongly linking humans to climate change
Report scientist: Evidence of warming on the planet is unequivocal
Scientists predict global temperature increases of 3.2-7.1 degrees F by 2100
Sea levels could rise between 7 and 23 inches by the end of the century
The implications of this are enormous, however any impact this report could have had on the general public's ...More »
