Fan Mike McGraner sent us some DVD footage shot in Cleveland during the U.S. acoustic tour, and I thought this might be nice to throw on here for everyone. Mike's done some great work with the limited ability he had in shooting the show, so kudos to you, Mike. The footage is of Matt's last song in the encore that evening, If I Was A Tidal Wave (unreleased). The file is rather big in file size and encoded in high quality, so it may take some time ...More »

The highlight of last night’s show is captured in the photograph above – a marriage proposal. Over the last year I have been asked on two separate occasions if it would be possible for proposals to be made on stage during a performance, and I was, on both occasions, more than happy to oblige. It was a fantastic moment for Ray and his wife to be, who was actually in the crowd and had to make her way to the front of the stage and ...More »

Well, here I am at the end of the line. One more show and I’m home. Last night I had the good fortune of actually falling asleep just a little after ten. Of course, given my luck, I woke up at 12 and couldn’t get back to sleep until five-thirty. One thing I will say about American television – thank God for HBO. I got to watch two episodes of The Wire, Real Time, and Domino. I’m not entirely proud of that last one, though ...More »

Buffalo – covered in snow as always. But I’m not one to preach. At home, on the warm West Coast, my sunny city by the bay is in the grips of a freak blizzard. Lance and I have decided that we’ve had enough – we’re moving to a Southern State where it’s warm and there are Waffle House’s every three blocks and Cheerwine flows from the faucets. My friend Pat Grant sent me the following clip of poet Darian Dauchan that is definitely worth a look. ...More »

Tonight’s show in Arlington was fantastic. The crowd was fantastic, the venue was fun; it was an all around great experience. I even got to catch up with my good friend, and one time matthewgood.org author, Dan Regelbrugge, who is now stationed at the Pentagon and lives in the area. Truth be told, the time we got to spend together wasn’t nearly long enough – I had to drive back to Baltimore and Dan had to report to work at 5AM, so. But he did ...More »

Greetings from Baltimore. Being that I’m flying to Buffalo in the morning we’re staying here by the airport rather than in Virginia, which isn’t too far off anyway. Tonight’s show will be interesting in that the venue does not sell tickets in advance, so. I was plagued by a horrible night terror last night. If you have read what I have written about them in the past with regards to how they have affected me my entire life, then you are aware just how traumatic ...More »

I want to take this opportunity to apologize to those here in Philadelphia that weren’t treated to an encore this evening and explain why. I’ve been playing music for most of my adult life. During that time I have, obviously, had a great deal of success in my own country. Over the thirteen years that I have been recording records and touring in support of them I have come to expect a certain level of respect from audience members, and I’ll not listen to excuses ...More »

Greeting from The City Of Brotherly Love. It all happened here in Philadelphia. The formation of the Continental Congress, the first public reading of The Declaration Of Independence, and the Constitutional Convention. It was here that one of the most progressive political doctrines in history was penned, though one that would avoid one of this nation’s greatest evils in the process. On the way down from New York we passed the turnoff to Trenton, where, on the day after Christmas, 1776, the tattered remnants of George ...More »

I’m tired. Too tired to field emails from Christian nut jobs about the entry that I posted earlier today. Frankly, I don’t care, and I don’t want some theological war sparked in the comments either (I’ve already had to delete several comments that were left in moderation because of their content). One piece of that entry that I will re-post is the following... “We have all often heard it spoken - where is God amidst all this suffering? There are those that believe that our suffering is ...More »
