Best Lyrics 1

The Fine Art Of Falling Apart has always ranked high in my personal estimation. I wrote it in just over an hour. I recorded it in one live take. Sometimes things just work out.

I can’t remember how I felt on the day I wrote it or what magic was present. It was one of those things that just came to me. I’m thankful that it did.

I remember recording it with Zach and having done just the one take was somewhat fraught. The vocals were flat and sharp here and there, but in the end I let it slide. It was a live performance and suited the song.

The lyrical content is personal. Maybe almost too personal. But that’s what makes it great.

The original lyrics are as follows…

Well I walk alone p

And I ride alone

And I rock myself to sleep

Baby there ain't enough room in this world

For people like you and horrors like me

In a time of darkness

There lived a girl in a cave in the woods

Disguised as a bee

And at night she would fly into the city

And sting the cause

And sting the cost

And she would hover over me

Whispering…

We're surfacing

Well I stand alone

And I fight alone

And I stay clean by feeling cheap

And baby there ain't enough room in this world

For perfections like you

And monsters like me

In a time of darkness

You will look absurd and you will feel inert

And you'll go looking to blame somebody

You see I used to think I'd get over everything

But everything just got over me…

I’m certain of it

Well I walk alone

And I ride alone

And you know that’s all right by me

Cause baby there ain't enough room in this world

For a great, great many things

I remember waiting to get this at A&B Sound. Immediately went into my soft CD case in the car.

Own a copy. Loved that Era of your writing. Still hits different and the piano intro clip is the best.
